Yeah, plus Hasbro’s stance on violence. (Despite all the slapstick in the shows. Even G1 had some violence, and slapstick.)
Rumor has it, Hasbro C&D’d the fangame “Fighting is Magic,” because they were afraid it’d be too violent, but I can’t confirm if that’s true. (But personally, I think it’s for the better the game got remade into an original property.)
Another thing that might have cause problems is most likely they would have been given a tight deadline.
Ma
Most likely hasbro would have wanted a game to be released around the same time as a season. Wayforward said that in 2013 And I believe at that point each season had to be green lipped
Edited
Yeah, they actually have made good licensed games before, such as Contra 4 for DS, Ducktales Remastered, and the sadly obscure “Batman Brave and the Bold” Wii game, which was done like a classic arcade beat-’em-up game.
I love the Shantae & Mighty Switch Force series BTW.
Edited
Wait, seriously? The same Wayforward that is responsible for the amazing Shantae platformers wanted to make a MLP game?
Honestly, if that happened I would have been so, so very happy. I love Wayforward, and I think they would have made an amazing MLP platformer.
Yeah, that might’ve also been why it never got an official game, besides the phone aps, and Atari parody online game.
My biggest concern about friendship is magic ever getting a game would they be able to give characters their own good unique gameplay.
I wouldnt want it to be like the apps where the ganeplay was based on their race not the characters. And I probably wouldn’t want it to be new characters because the fun from the m6 comes from more than just their personalities
Edited
I imagine a puzzle platformer similar to “Gameboy Donkey Kong ‘94” (the one where you have to carry a key to a door, and solve puzzles, basically a “much better version of Crazy Castle”) would’ve been a great genre for it, and that would appeal to bronies, and kids alike.
@Enmity1498
Yeah, it’s kinda an unfair comparison.
And granted the ‘80s MLP series was popular, but only mostly with it’s target audience, but the same could be said about stuff like the 1970s “Superfriends” kiddy cartoon, and such. (They weren’t even allowed to punch in those.)
@Background Pony #1E55
Actually, I remember Nintendo Power magazine referenced MLP:FIM, and NOA even once had it on the Eshop thumbnail for the 3DS Netflix ap. I can’t remember if images of those are here though.

MLP was not well loved before FiM, and FiM came out only 11 years ago. That is pretty recent, if you ask me.
And That Because Hasbro Also Know DC Video Game Could Be Terrible
Frankly, I would take the movie over the videogame.
DC: Video game 1. Movie 0.
Hasbro: Video game 0. Movie 1.
You’re trolling actually hurts
But there was never a DC video game yet before.
It’s still DC
DC Super Hero Girls isn’t in the main DC continuity, they did a TTG crossover, so it’s set in that world.
Also it’s DC a much bigger brand
An MLP game could easily be awesome. It should be a Platformer with some Adventure Game and RPG elements. You get to pick which character you play as in the combat scenes and then you also play as all six, plus maybe Spike and Starlight in the story elements. It’d be an up to six player co-op game. There’s also an open world element that you can explore for fun.
Edited
How would they convert the main sixs personalities into gameplay without crashing with each other?
@William Flutter
It hasn’t outsold the Wii… yet.
