I could see why Canterlot would become the pegasus home.
“Well we can’t fly, but we (the pegasus royalty) want to make ponies think we can so we should have a home that’s close to the clouds.”
“What about that city way up there on that mountain?”

Comparing it to the G4 map of Equestria, Zephyr Heights is Canterlot, Bridlewood is either the woods west of Tall Tale or part of the Undiscovered West, and wild swing based on that peninsula, Maretime Bay is the coast just south of Horseshoe Bay.
So Zephyr Heights is what became of Canterlot it looks like. Bridlewood appears to be in the former White Tail Woods, I thought it might have been what became of the Everfree Forest, I wish we could see the area of Ponyville in this but I bet that would be a huge spoiler or something. There is no way they aren’t doing something important with it.

With most of the magic gone, I fear that it’s citizens may have abandoned the empire when the frozen north overtook it.
