You mean he was about to petrify only Twilight but failed in contrast to this just like Tempest? The movie could have seen the Storm Creatures chasing the Mane Six with obsidian orbs. And if Tempest found she Twilight, she could have successfully turn the last princess into a statue instead of caging her. Even the Storm King asks Tempest why Twilight’s sill moving. Well, the Storm King and his minions would have petrified the rulers of different kingdoms beyond Equestria including Abyssinia and Mount Aris/Hippogriffia that he have already overthrow.

Are you sure? SupahDonarudo is just to explain what really happen to the King of the Hippogriffs. He was adapting prequel to the movie, “The Stormy Road the Canterlot”.
