I disagree with that, in that in a matter of CONFLICTING loyalties she decided on Applejack. Applejack clearly had some issue they she wouldn’t speak about and if AJ got away there was no telling if they’d be able to find her again given how sneaky she was being. So in this case she chose to be loyal to AJ to try to get her to open up and come back home. They could always go back and pick up Rarity and AJ later.

People falter sometimes. People have bad days, or get lost in the moment. People just plain screw up; you have, I have, Batman has.
That’s doesn’t mean that they’re bad people, or that their personality traits have vanished somehow; all it means is that people screw up.

Now can we PLEASE stop arguing about this crap?

You don’t think it’s disloyal to pick on a friend and try to guilt her into doing something that is contrary to her character because ‘you have a reputation to consider’?

Rainbow Dash jousting wasn’t her being disloyal. I think her unwillingness to try to reconcile with and reform Gilda is a better symptom of going against her element, although:

A) Honestly I think RD and TS embody their elements to best. RD’s a douchebag a lot but she’s a loyal douchebag, and I KIND OF thing she’s moved into a secondary leader position after Twilight.

B) Headcanon’s always been that their elements are things they need to focus on improving, NOT what they’re already good at.

Dishonesty. Cynicism. Greed. Cruelty. Disloyalty. Disharmony.

Yea… I see myself as the opposite of them at times. Reality is sucks…

Still, it is quite grating when we see someone like Rarity in season 3 being portrayed as being much more greedy than before, and hardly generous. Remember that episode where Spike babysat the mane 6s’ animals for gems? Rarity gave him the smallest of slivers to pay for him (admittedly, it did buy a huge air fan).

I could maybe agree with Rainbow Dash not being that very loyal by facerolling Fluttershy, but how is Twilight NOT using magic a betrayal to her element?
I think a better example of her betraying her element would be when she went insane and used her magic to do harm in “Lesson Zero”.

Yes, because the characters are not allowed to have depth and always adhere to their Elements.

Just joking. I hate that line because it’s pretty much trying to get us to ignore that they had established these character traits. I especially hate when people go “why did they act in such a manner? Because they represent X and X Element!” precisely because that ignores the times they’ve failed to live up to their element. And it is especially grating when I get the first paragraph as a response to pointing out how they don’t always live up to their elements when someone proudly declares how they lived up to their element when doing so would be common decency regardless.
