changlings have a particular problem, in any given area there is not enough food around the nest for all 18 milion members of the hive, this demanding population of mouths is solved by the cannibalistic tendancies of the race, thus solving the food shortage and lessening the number of mouths too feed.
it also helps the queen recycle protien for eggs and more spawn
