I can see it now…  
Before the CMC started going to Ponyville Elementary, Silver Spoon and Diamond Tiara themselves were bullied for being spoiled rich and blank flanks. DT managed to put up with it, but when she saw Silver Spoon, the new filly, being bullied for the same reasons she was, she flipped and rushed in to protect her. This would form a friendship that would last the rest of their lives.
