It certainly isnt the culmination of several seasons worth of development.
Regardless of whether or not Twilight becoming an alicorn was part of the plan from the beginning, Twilight becoming a successor and/or peer to Celestia was. Making her an alicorn is just a way to visually represent that.
You do know Lauren said that she intended for Twilight to take Celestia’s place right and ascend to the throne? Plus she left the show early on her opinion really shouldn’t mean that much at all. Aditionally, Twilights not a pretty pink princess. She’s a purple alicorn princess who earned her position by helping save the nation multiple times and by demonstrating great magical and intellectual abilities. If you’re just going to see the word “princess” and assume it’s bad then talking to you is probably a waste of anyone’s time but I have a question for you. What did you think of Discord redemption? Because if you accepted that plot. that episode, then you have no right to criticize MMC. Oh and as we are bringing up Lauren, ignoring that MLP FIM was a group effort right form the beginning and therefore ignoring the massive contributions made by dozens of other skilled writers who worked on equal footing to Lauren, she never actually said she did not intend for Twilight to become a princess, she never confirmed anything one way or the other.
You say that like if twilicorn was MEANT to happen, you obviously forget that Lauren Faust said she wasn’t meant to be a pretty pink alicorn princess
This thread and the screenshot in a nutshell.
Are you kidding? This will go on as long as there’s a fandom. Now the argument’s over how badly this ruins the show; in a few months it’ll be over how pointless the change is.
Wow.
Dude, did you even READ what i WROTE? Should I HIGHLIGHT it for YOU so that you can UNDERSTAND what I’m trying to TELL you?
Seriously, it’s not that hard to understand it. The show does and still does aspire to be a good show, however it still follows the formula for children shows so that every two or three year old child understands what’s going on.
This show was not made for over 20+ years odl Clowndicks but for little children and thus it makes sense why every enemy looks and talks like your average clichéd villian, why Twi gets wings to make it more clear that she became a princess than just give her a title or why it’s normal for all ponies to go and sing and dance all correctly all of a sudden just cause somepony started to sing!
Gods, there are way more points where we could argue about what makes this show not so great than THIS butthurt stuff. >.<
@ClownDicks
Twilight has always been the leader of the group and main character of the series. Does it also bother you that she’s Celestia’s protege, her element is a crown, that according Discord it’s the most powerful and elusive element, or that every two part episode so far is focused on her.
I will say the anti-Twilicorn crowd seems to have gotten less vitriolic over the past couple of months, but with terms like “Hasdrones” still being thrown around and with all the hate directed at Meghan McCarthy, I’d hardly say either side is innocent of using insults and personal attacks.
Not that I’d expect anything else from a fandom that regards “love and tolerate” as a poor joke.
Anyway, to compare it to Mass Effect (as I inevitably do; c’mon, everyone should know this by now), saying that Twilight became an Alicorn Princess™ due to fixing a spell, is like saying Commander Shepard became a Spectre due to finding evidence of Saren’s wrongdoing.
Who’s “you guys”?
I joined because the fandom and its fanwork drew me in, I started watching mainly because of all the pony stuff I’d been seeing online.
Probably not.
Wouldn’t put money on it.
Don’t you and I count as anyone?
I don’t think anyone cares about that anymore, Clowndicks.
I thought we all joined this fandom because the show aspires (at a bare minimum, used to aspire) to be more than just another show for kids?
Am pretty sure Faust would have made Twi an Alicorn too, mostly cause she’s a good writer and knows she is writing a show for little girls. I’m not talking about quality and stuff where everybody goes batshit crazy once you go “it’s a show for little kids”. I mean blatant story telling for children.
Like why for example the evil Queen always looks evil and not beautiful and nice or why Twi and co are all nice little ponies and not ugly mugs covered in dirt.
Alot of three year old and sometimes even younger girls watches this show.
Given that Twi got a crown as element in the second episode and was “faithful personal student” of the dato sole Princess of Equestria, it was pretty clear that Twi’s path in this show will be different in some ways than of the other five.
For such kids it’s much easier to grasp and understand such changes if it gets seen visually. They can already see a difference with Twi getting a crown and the other necklaces.
Now after 3 seasons Twi’s change cannot be shown with a crown anylonger, cause getting a new crown wouldn’t be any change and a title isn’t something you can see nor something a three year old could understand too easily.
If Twi get wings however and before the children listen to Celestia singing praise to her student that she had fulfilled her destiny (what Celestia had given her a shove in said direction quite some times though, let’s be honest with that) then every little children understands that Twi is now a princess.
And when the friends of Twi are happy for her, they also realizes that it’s a good thing which happend.
In other words, they have understood it much better than you do.
Just cause Twi carries a title doesn’t mean she’s automatical a political leader.
Remember Cadance? She’s also a princess yet she was a babysitter and till the Crystal Empire returned she hold no political power whatsoever for all we know.
Twi as well won’t become a political leader overnight if she’d ever would become one. Though I could see her having to be Luna’s advisor while Celestia takes a vacation after a thousand years of ruling. But that’s a story for a 22 minute episode. XD
I never just straight up said you shouldn’t like it. I gave my reasons, and you gave yours. I have been nothing but respectful.
That’s the thing I’ve noticed on Derpibooru, most of the drama and vitriol comes from the pro-Twilicorn crowd.
Well, I think it’s not a bad idea, therefore you shouldn’t either. So there. Nyeh!
Be that as it may, making Twilight a political leader is still a bad idea. Just that Faust’s take probably would’ve been a lot more palatable than Pretty Purple Pony Princess.
