Description

today was a good day until I saw man of steel, now I have mixed feelings about it, I liked it and feel bad about it.

What would be sad is if she thinks this because she’s saved the day from world ending threats before, only for people to find SOME way to be ungrateful, if that were the case than not only would I understand her actions but think it EXTREMELY unethical to offer them aid of any kind

I’m way late for this conversation but…
I don’t understand why it’s hard to have a character with a lot of power and not have these excuses. The situation here could work with Celestia dealing with the foes the Mane Cast can’t handle while they deal with the ones they can. It’s not a zero sum situation, everyone should contribute to solving the problem. No matter how powerful Celestia is, she can’t be at two places at once or magically defeat everything.

Subdivisions of powers where things are allegedly democratic are nothing new: the polis of ancient Greece had subdivisions of this kind, and even China today has elections in the local level which are completely meaningless in the larger scenario.

Just saying the terminology isn’t incorrect, implications aside.

@Background Pony
When people call her a tyrant, they generally mean that she’s cruel and oppressive, and given the existence of Luna, who she shares power with, and Mayors, who are presumably elected democratically, I think a case can be made that her power isn’t absolute.

@supermanhulkjesus
She is a supreme ruler who is clearly above just about anyone or anything in legal, moral, or social terms, a likely result of nothing but her overtaking of the responsibilities over the raising of the sun.

Her benevolence or lack of thereof has nothing to do with her status as a tyrant.

That interpretation of Celestia kinda reminds me of Homelander from The Boys.
(Basically Superman as a real “all-american” superhero, a lazy sports-watching couch potato doofus who abuses his powers for hilariously mundane things)

And then there are some who say she was in fact behind the attack in the first place! :D

I was waiting for someone to point out that part.He is one of those who genuinely believes that Celestia is a Tyrant no matter what.I can bet if you try to point this out to him,be would probably brush it off as “Propaganda”.

Basically,this guy is just being over cynical

I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s fond of the whole Lunar Republic idea.

How about Luna messing up and becoming Nightmare Moon? he didn’t even mention it.
matt0044

@Amber
All possible validity in that statement flew right out the window with the usage of the goddamned “to the moon” card. Seriously, Celestia did this with Nightmare Moon as she had little choice and didn’t want to kill her sister while also protecting Equestria.

Scrolling through the comments,I found this “Gem”.

This was the answer from someone that was was asked why is he questioning the validity of Celestia and Luna’s ability of moving the Sun and the Moon.

Is natural for us to try to apply our logic to everything around us,but since their world doesn’t seem to work the exact same way as ours,should it still apply?

Should we consider Celestia to be in the same level as Kim Jong-il or Kim Jong-un? or Hitler?
matt0044

@Ebalosus
Well-put. I always saw “Alicorns as princess” to be reasonable when you see it as they rule over Pegasi, Earth Ponies and Unicorns. Their appearance might give the impression that they stand for all races. Given the ancient racism, this may’ve helped Celestia and Luna become princesses…

Don’t worry, I understand. From reading what you’ve written, I’d say that I’m in broad agreement with you, regarding Celestia-as-ruler, and the fact that the narrative does not paint her as all powerful.

The point I was trying to make from extrapolating what supermanhulkjesus said was “Alicorn Mary Sue”_ is inherently incompatable with narrative coherence, and that any twilicorn hater basing their argument *solely* on the basis of _“Alicorn Mary Sue” is arguing from a position that supports the narrative incoherence of having an all powerful character.
