Naw, I never use bleach.

Okay, even if she did stretch the truth a little, so what? The part she didn’t tell Twilight wasn’t relevant to the issue at hand and could have even been a distraction.
Again, that’s playing word games, because Sunset never actually abandoned her position. Sure, she wasn’t taking Celestia’s advice about certain things, but those recommendations weren’t necessarily part of her curricula. Remember, we were shown Sunset demonstrating her magical ability as an example of what she’d been learning—friendshippy stuff wasn’t part of that test at all. Celestia was the one who kicked Sunset to the curb after they had a bitter exchange of words, so in the strictest sense, Celestia’s statement was inaccurate.
Alternatively, by actively ignoring the lessons Celestia was trying to teach, Sunset abandoned her studies long before she and Celestia parted ways.
Celestia was doing a pretty poor job of that, which is an interestingly regular occurrence with her. By the way, Sunset didn’t want to become “Princess of Friendship”; that’s something Celestia just recently made up.
Anyway, the fact remains that Celestia is the one who removed Sunset from her apprenticeship (if you believe the comic), which makes the “abandoned her studies” claim definitively false.
Did Celestia ever try to teach Sunset anything about friendship?
You think so? Celestia was trying to teach Sunset to become the Princess of Friendship and not a self-centered bitch, yet Sunset was still becoming a self-centered bitch yet still demanded becoming the Princess of Friendship. Celestia told her to cut that shit out, and then Sunset ran away. So, the ‘abandoned’ part.
That’s some Obi-Wan level “Your father is dead!” kind of stretching right there.

I don’t think of it as so. Sunset was being groomed as the next alicorn princess, but she tried skipping ahead without learning the important parts (like being friends). Celestia warned her not to continue that and punished her for breaking into forbidden places, but forgiveness is in Celestia’s nature, and it would have been likely Sunset would have been accepted back had she apologized. But no, she broke out and ran into the mirror, away from the world, her schooling, and Celestia, hence the “abandonment.”
That’s a pretty old comment, but I suppose one thing I do remember is that in the movie, Celestia said that Sunset ‘abandoned’ her studies, whereas in the comic, Celestia is the one who denounced Sunset. If we take those together, the Princess must either have a really bad memory or she was stretching the truth.

I don’t know about the chronology, but I did notice that the comic prequel didn’t really jive with the move too well.

I think the Mirror changes the one who passed to blend in with the environment he/she is sent to. Sunset arrived at a high school and happened to become to student. I imagine she faked her age.
