Into Darkness would have been a very, very different movie. One that I’d like to see. Get this future fanfic greenlit ASAP!

To everyone griping about the J.J. Abrams movies, here are a few things to consider.

First off, remember the Star Trek TNG episode “Parallels”?
Well, that’s how the reboot works. It’s a parallel universe to the original, and did NOT overwrite the Prime Timeline.

Also, for the changes that would’ve come BEFORE the deviation, there’s something else to remember:
The original Enterprise frequently traveled into the Past. Hence that is why there are subtle changes from before the split: their various Time Travel missions were changed, and thus they altered the past in a different way than in the Prime Timeline as a result.

Finally, don’t claim that the Prime Timeline never had Federation Ships that were this big/heavily armed.
I point you to the aftermath of the Borg Attack in “Best of Both Worlds”. Wolf-359 was basically Star Trek’s 9/11, and sever as a catalyst for the Federation to start seriously cranking up their firepower, and building more warships (though they never actually called them that, they were still warships).
The Reboot just takes it to the logical conclusion.

As to why the ships are more advanced? The canonical explanation is that they scanned the Narada and brought back the scans to the Federation.
It’s also very possible that the destruction of the Kelvin was almost their version of Wolf 359, and thus that drove them to advance their tech accordingly. It’s that simple.

(Sidenote: Remember the last parallel Enterprise-D Worf visited in “Parallels”, and how the bridge of said Enterprise-D looked a bit similar to the Reboot’s Enterprise? Food for thought.)

As much as I dislike the reboots with you, I would have to say that you’ve lost this argument. Unfortunately, most of the AU changes JJ Abrams made make sense, if only for the utterly lame “Because It’s A Different Timeline” reason.

If one ship shows up and wrecks your entire fleet (as the Narada did) you start wanting to make your own ships that can do that.

Again, all those ships are from the non-‘Narada showed up and wrecked everything’ ORIGINAL timeline. I was referring to this ship from the alternate timeline:

Which, as seen here is nearly twice the size of the AU Enterprise.

@Spiritus Arcane
No they don’t the prometheus-class as only a a little bigger than Voyager and its key feat is breaking up into three parts ie get even smaller

full
Not shown the Luna-class which is 454.3 meters

If you’re talking about the Enterprise j its not canon
And don’t bring up that piece of shit of a ship

To be fair…that’s what the Pre-timeline split Federation did. Also, the Dreadnaught in Into Darkness was even bigger than the Enterprise, so apparently this Federation Or at least Section 31 does go ‘bigger is better’ on their warships.

The reason is that thanks to Kelvin’s survivors Scan to narada (Nero Ship) some design and technology have been altered, the normal Constitution Class is now almost the same size of a galaxy class or almost as Sovereign class
