Compare that with Sunset Shimmer’s shadow.  
It’s not a pony’s shape.

Still, it makes me wonder if they’d ever have the balls to depict a zebra as a villain. People thought it was racist that Zecora was depicted as one, even though the entire point of Bridle Gossip was that she wasn’t and that you shouldn’t judge based on appearances.

Eyes would still be wrong for Trixie; Trixie’s are round (like Pinkie’s or Applejack’s), Shadow Pony’s are pointy (like Twilight’s, and coincidentally Sunset). Also the eyes were on the shadow itself
 
My bet is still on this being a quick scene for the spooky factor.
