you lift out the new ms.marvel
“Are you my brother? Are you Rex Racer?”
“No, sorry. My name is Scott Summers.”
That would be an awesome plot twist.
Yeah, that was my first response to Cyclops’ new outfit too.
Funnily enough, years and years ago when Speed Racer was still on tv, I thought Racer X was Cyclops.
I think it’s apart of his costume now.
Pretty much this. But I haven’t completely given up on comics. If there is a good story out there I’ll read it.
Right, see, here’s where we’re going to have to agree to disagree. I started reading comics back when Doom, even in his thought bubbles, had some semblance of nobility (e.g. saving an unconcious Captain America to repay Cap saving his life). Preferring to avoid unnecessary cruelty, or being careful about what price he was willing to pay for power (e.g. meeting his future self during that time travel business with Iron Man). What irritated me with the examples I gave is that they seemed needlessly cruel. Was it necessary to mutilate those Asgardians? Was Doom so out of ideas he was willing to make a deal with demons despite spending much of his adult life fighting a demon?
Comics change, I get it. But I saw the point where I was going to start going, “I don’t enjoy these anymore,” so I got out while the getting was good.
I’m afraid that no matter what storylines you summarize or praise, I’m just not going to be convinced. Marvel and DC are darker than before, and I’m at the point where I go, “Bloody hell. The news is depressing enough already. I read comics to get away from it, not see even worse stuff.”
Hence turning to Ponies.
Yes how dare they write a villain doing villainous things. Also the God Butcher saga was awesome. The whole point of Thor: God of Thunder was to an awesome & weird viking stories with the character but at the same time Thor isn’t being written as a “fuck yeah 90’s metal” character as you would think given the theme of the book hell first thing we see him do (in the modern timeline) was deliver rain to an alien world after hearing a little alien girls prayer aka being a kind & generous hero.
I’m going to have to say that some of those sound like they might be interesting, maybe even fun, while others sound rather daft. The ‘Original X-Men being brought forward in time’ bit sounds good. ‘The God Butcher’ brings to mind that awful Marquis of Death character someone came up with awhile back.
But for me, it’s a case of trust once lost is difficult to regain. I just can’t enjoy Marvel Comics anymore, since I keep remembering the bad as well as the good, and the bad is a lot worse. For example, Dr Doom used to be my favourite villain, but then came that whole ‘wearing my childhood sweetheart’s skin as armour’ bit that totally killed my respect for him. And then what he did to those Asgardians…
Make no mistake, I always look forward to his appearances in other media (my favourites being his appearances in World’s Mightiest Heroes and Marvel vs Capcom 3), but in comics, that’s always going to hover over my head.
*that I’M over 40
Damn typos.
Actually, I’m more of an 80s kid or something, given that over 40…
When you say that all I can think of is
You’re probably right. Although, if I must choose, I prefer Windsor McCay’s “mother of all acid trips” (i.e. Little Nemo in Slumberland) to the current “Screw continuity, readers want boobs and blood and drama! MORE boobs and blood and drama!” e-attitude of the Marvel and DC writers.
Yes, I’m old. So sue me.
Is the comic book industry. Tell me when did comic s ever looked as if the creators weren’t drinking or smoking something?
Or it’s just you having terrible taste.
All of which sounds pretty much like “Marvel writers like to do jello shots while working”
Let’s see you missed Deadpool fighting zombie President, demons & a mad doctor in Korea along with Cap & Wolverine, Thor having to face an alien known as the God Butcher throughout 3 points in his life, Tony discovering he’s adopted meets his brother Anto (long story go read Secret Origins of Tony Stark) & are trying to discover a way to make the world better, The original X-men being transported to modern time, Cap making a new avengers team to unite mutants & humans & are currently fighting the Apocalypse twins (another long story read Uncanny X-force’s Dark Angel Saga), Daredevil being f***king awesome, Wolverine losing his healing factor, & Bruce Banner joining SHIELD.
I know that it’s rather highly regarded, but the problem is for a lot of people you’re asking them to overlook the fact Doc Ock has basically taken over Spider-Man’s existence. It’s the same reason why people were so outraged with the Clone Saga, when they revealed Peter was the clone and Ben the original.
For me, I just can’t look at Spider-Man (in the comics, anyway) anymore without thinking about how he made a deal with the devil. That sort of thing really poisons your enjoyment of a character.
