What is the point to respond to a comment that is ONE YEAR OLD?
Maybe you shouldn’t presume to speak for all of disabled people when you yourself admit that many who are disabled actually like and appreciate the episode and its message. It’s almost as if the disabled population isn’t a single entity with one mind that comes to a definite conclusion on things, but rather a group made up of individuals who all have differing opinions on their own personal situation in life.
Very strongly.
How the hell can you complain about the episode’s handling of disabilities, and maintain that Scootaloo doesn’t have a disability?
I could fake an apology for pointing out one of the many (many) minority groups who are institutionally hated, dehumanized, and disenfranchised by the Republican Party if you want, but it seemed like an easily-understood-by-all establishment of severity that was relevant to the topic.
Of course there’s plenty of perfectly reasonable disagreement about this sort of thing, because there are always going to be some people who only see the worst possible interpretation of anything good, as well as some who always see greatness in whatever insulting and demeaning bone they’re thrown; that was sort of the point of my reply to your universal and unilateral declaration of THIS EPISODE SUCKS 5-EVER!!1!, that mileage varies.
Hey. No dragging politics into it. That’s not what we’re here to discuss, it’s just going to make me hate you.
There’s an author who summed it up fairly succinctly; the “message” of Flight to the Finish is a weak platitude that the able-bodied have repeated for eons assuming it will make the disabled feel better, but it doesn’t actually consider how hard it really is to live with that kind of thing. You point out it’s uplifting to some, but to many it’s just an offensive half-nothing.
Yes, we still need to know more about where Daring Do lives.
Oh. Sorry about that.
@Spiritus Arcane
I thought it was Sweetie Belle’s magic too, when I first saw it, but her li’l sparkly effects in One Bad Seed were green like her eyes; that was Rarity’s vine corrupted blue magic dragging her down the stairs.
@barbeque
Thanks!
@Turnways_Flip
My so-disabled-a-Republican-dominated-government-gave-her-disability-payments wife would have stood up and cheered during Flight To The Finish if standing up had been a serious option that day.
I was also disappointed that they didn’t actually settle the issue one way or the other, but the way they didn’t settle it was pretty great, and exactly the thing I was hoping for from the episode: they had a beloved Big Sister/Authority Figure come right out and say that disabled or not is irrelevant to how awesome you are, and that not being able to do one thing doesn’t stop you from kicking ass at something else.
funny I think quit the opposite of this episode. that the problem was handled well, and that it had a good moral.
I dunno, I guess it technically counts as a serious issue, but it feels a little like cheating to count it because Flight to the Finish was a thoroughly terrible episode. Its handling of the idea of disabilities was overly simplistic, offensive to people who actually have physical disabilities. Also, the way it’s written is specifically designed not to actually answer the question of whether Scootaloo is really physically disabled or just, as I still maintain, a late bloomer, or even suffering from a psychological block, which of course would still be traumatic for her but not the same problem categorically.
I agree that “Sweetie Belle uses unicorn power” doesn’t count. That was clearly not even remotely her doing.
Cheerimac is neeeeever gonna haaaaaappen. Get over it.
Fictive city. It’s like saying you travelled abroad to visit Gotham City.
And the properly propose line from Daring Do, which got he smirk-face-dash reaction.
Adult joke: Maybe Discord’s maid outfit?
Not sure about the new town. Since we have visited Manehatten before, and the city in Power Ponies wasn’t a real place. But I’m OK with it. Since my mentality with the bingo’s is, the more the merrier.
And didn’t we had an adult joke already?
Rarity one doesn’t count, because it specifically says Canterlot.
Not sure Sweetie using Unicorn power counts either since it was a result of the Everfree going nuts.
And which background character?
Um. That field could’ve been left out completely, I think. I mean, considering the source material, that like “someone breathing oxygen”.
Keep in mind that the pic is not tagged spoiler:s04 nor any specific episode(s), so be a bit careful with the spoiler talk in comments, or take them to the forums.
