Changelings of the Hagfish Hive often let themselves be rescued from “drowning” so they can feign admiration for their rescuer and prey on his feelings, but occasionally they’ll also turn the tables and help ponies caught in a shipwreck - that they usually caused themselves. Since ponies aren’t all THAT big on seafaring, they can’t do that too often though and have to keep a close eye on their resources. Sometimes they’ll instead disguise themselves as crew and hire aboard a ship to simply gain love and respect from fellow crew members. Since they have excellent knowledge of Horseshoe Bay and surrounding areas, many Hagfish changelings have already gotten a good filling working as helmsman or even captain. When food is extremely scarce, they tend to wander into nearby fishing towns and try their luck there. Sometimes it’s as simple as disguising themselves as an old salt and gaining love from children for telling stories.
Since most of their hive’s chambers are connected through underwater tunnels, they don’t take husks for their hive.

Ya lost me. :p Though, I did skim the Love Lost, particularly the chapters with Maryn in them. Not bod, though a bit direct and lacking in subtlety.
You see,Maryn has had trouble sending the message of Blackfin’s treason across the mindlink(that’s what she calls the rudimentary hivemind all changelings have)because he’s her older brother and part of her doesn’t want him to get degraded or Sea Star interrupts her.Sorry if this sounds like an infodump.

Thanks for the encouragement. I’ve put some scribbles to paper in the past couple weeks, just to stretch those stiff synapses. For the sake of motivation, I’ll commit to posting a drawing a week. No promises on the quality :)
Your ideas for a story here sounds really interesting. The thing I love about changelings is their underlying need to develop a dual consciousness just to exist. The psycho is ready-baked into the drama.

Dude,yes!I could write one about Centurion Maryn(that’s who I think is in this picture)who rescues the stallion Sea Star from a shipwreck that her treacherous fellow Centurion Blackfin caused.(He tries to take a husk.)She gradually falls for him,tries to report Blackfin to the queen,all while juggling roles as Marine Depths and Maryn and trying to keep her true nature a secret.
Myxine really is BEST Changeling Matriarch. I seriously love her design, her attitude and mindset as put forth in Carni’s comments, and as has been stated the Hagfish - while not entirely harmless - are the least likely to cause grievous harm to their “victims”. I doubt they even consider them as “victims” or even “prey”. They do what they need to do to get by. Doing more or trying to overtly cause harm for their own benefit would just bring unwanted attention and ire. Chrysalis found that out the hard way. Myxine strikes me as one Matriarch who’s not about to let such a fate befall her brood.
