If you’re talking about Prism and Claire, that’s only five years. Not quite as big a gap as you are making it out to be, and we are lead to believe the crush was rather short lived.

Sometimes, I wonder if Kilala is into shotacon. That wouldn’t be a bad thing, and it would explain a lot. She did say that Sparity was her top ship, and going by the top left picture, she is under no illusion in regards to the age gap. Plus, in the NextGen verse, she has another younger boy with a crush on an older girl. Yeah, I know it’s meant to be a funny “Generation Xerox” thing because the girl being crushed on is Rarity’s daughter, but still.

(in fact I chased down and conquered my target of affection when I was 12 by doing what Spike was doing, just more aggressively. The relationship lasted four years, until she landed a position in a tech company that was 330 miles away.) So yeah, infatuation doesn’t just begin and end at only infatuation, it can sometimes morph into something more.
