The base you count in doesn’t change the number of objects, just how you represent it. If ponies did count in base 4 and there are 35 candles (that’s open to debate), there would still be 35, but they would write it as 203 (24^2 + 041 + 3*40).
 
Hey, maybe that’s how Granny Smith is hundreds of years old, and it’s been 100 moons since the last Apple family reunion.

I don’t think the number of candles corresponds to rainbow dash’s age. As someone else pointed out there’d be like 30-some candles on the cake, considering the ones that would have to be on the back. And Rainbow Dash deffo nain’t furly.

If there’s a 1 to 1 correspondence between candles and years, you’re looking at base 1 ;)

Unless the candles on the cake are explicitly untreated to Rainbow Dashes age, this could be the first time the show has come close to describing a ponies age.

Hm? What do you mean? I put “I think.” After that because I was not sure. That was just a theory I heard from some bronies. I don’t care what kind of base they count in. I was just mentioning a possible alternative.

Well, if the side candles are counted only once, and the back of the cake has an equal number of candles to the front side, and the top of the cake has only one candle, she is…35? In base 10 I think. Ponies would only count in base 4 due to having 4 hooves, so the real number may not really be what we see here. I think. Maybe. I suck at math so I am most likely wrong.
