I thought the same thing regarding people laughing at the original headshots shown of Sombra, like, seriously, I want to go back in time and show both groups the loads and loads of love and fan art they get.
… So why isn’t there any maud x sombra? Crystals and whatnot.
Might have to fix that myself. Hmm.
Agreed.
Don’t get me wrong, I really like Shining Armor and Cadance as characters. Them being introduced abruptly was a little jarring, but it didn’t really hurt them in the long run due to how well they were handled.
Indeed, I think the way they handled Maud suggests a very positive trend of foreshadowing and continuity. I’m excited to see them continue it.
I just love how, several times now, the showrunners of MLP have introduced characters in ways that wouldn’t have worked for a lesser franchise, and turned those characters into fan favorites. It’s so cool. ^_ ^
Yeah. I admit, it would’ve been nice to have a picture frame featuring him in an earlier episode like what they did here, but it still manages to work.
…Y’know… maybe they established Maud’s existence in that chapter book and in the picture frame here precisely to make up for that.
That’s absolutely correct. Shining Armor and Cadance are revisions (especially Shining Armor).
By that definition, I’d say that Shining Armor and Cadance qualified as revisions, since the show never indicated that Twilight was an only child, and despite Faust’s original plans, nothing on the show ever actually indicated that Celestia and Luna were the only two alicorns.
It is a retcon, but it’s a very specific type of retcon known as a Revision. TvTropes defines a Revision as “A retcon which adds to the backstory without altering or contradicting previously known information”
Anyways, I can’t help but smile at the fact that Maud “Retcon” Pie is now everyone’s favorite Pie sister. ^_ ^
hell her beahviro in this episode would probably make it she would join the party after everyone else anyway…..
that was damn clever actually. her behavior in this photograph gave us a hint to her personality.
Flashbacks are still part of the continuity.
@MeshGearFox
>He clearly devoted more time to muscles after his strunction god struscled
What? Are those even words?
Don’t you mean Banana Banana Banana Banana Terracotta Banana Terracotta Terracotta Pie?
OH GOD GUYS GUYS GUYS
Her new sister has to be named Terracotta Pie.
Yeah, as much as I like Shining Armor, it always bothered me that they didn’t at least have a picture of him in the background at some point to foreshadow his debut.
I’ll admit I don’t understand either. I mean I’m happy that it happened, so the book isn’t contradicted but who knows? Maybe they had an idea requiring 3 ponies, like some sort of theme?
@Jarkes
I really appreciate the fact that they are giving us some hints of her existences before her very likely show appearance, but I still don’t understand the reason behind this. There was no previous mention of Twilight having any siblings so they had to give her a brother out of nowhere for the “My brother is going to get married”-plot. Pinkie, however, already has siblings. So hopefully they had a very good reason for nothing using Blinkie or Inkie.
Or it’s a sign that they gave G.M Berrow access to Season 4 scripts/post s4 notes on Pinkies family, after the whole writting Trixie as a villian post Magic Duel thing in Twi’s book?
It does explain why she as written off in the book and kept nameless if she’ll appear in the show.
It’s the Canon Immigrant Syndrome. One of the chapter books indicated that Pinkie Pie also had an older sister in addition to the two seen in Cutie Mark Chronciles. This is probably the first instance of official, non-show material influencing the show in some way.
They probably died?
Pinkie Pie’s third sister is a low-level retcon, at most, since it was never stated or explicitly shown that she had only two sisters, just implied. It’s probably a retcon in the sense that the writers didn’t specifically plan for her to have three sisters back in s1, but it doesn’t actually break any established continuity.
Bulk Biceps’s decrease in flying ability is definitely a retcon, but (a) at least until “Rainbow Falls” he was a bit character, and (b) judging by his performance in “Wonderbolts Academy”, he really didn’t belong there in the first place. So yeah, that retcon doesn’t really bother me.
But yes, I think it was for rule of funny over all.
>so a nice flat plate should be easy for him
You never picked up a big tiered cake before have you?
Flat plate means nothing as the wight isn’t going to stay centered on the plate.
He never had trouble with balancing it, is the thing. Even the extra countermeasures Pinkie were unused. Heck, Big has balanced round barrels on his back before, so a nice flat plate should be easy for him.
Given that the series has never hesitated to keep abilities consistent, I’d got with both Bulk’s diminished flight skills and Mac having trouble with a cake being because the writer thought that it was funny.
