I’m horrible at reading timestamps, okay? You should see me in the TVT’s RP signup threads. I necromance like it’s yesterday’s business.
You claim to not care, yet you insist on resurrecting a comment thread that hasn’t been posted in for almost a year.
Though it does make it prone to freezing and crashing. Even with mods like Mission Mojave Ultimate Edition.
I will not lie. Mod Skyrim and Fallout is extremely fun.
Also my mod support which may or may not be a pain in the butt to work with (looking at you Insurgency).
Although I currently have a Nvidia, I prefer Radeons due to both the pricing, and the fact that unlike Nvidia, all their drivers work!
It gives me the absolute shits having to deal with driver issues
most people upgrading their phones are doing it on contracts, they’re NOT buying these things at their full price.
Except of course for those people buying a new iphone every year but those are the sort of people with more money than sense.
…and that argument is retarded in the face of people upgrading their smartphones every year or two. FYI most of the smartphones people own over here cost around or over US$800, so trust me, price is not an issue when it comes to PC gaming
They kept the PS2 alive for 12 years, and they plan to keep the PS3 alive for at least 10 years, so the last gen is not over yet.
The last generation was 8 years with current plans for the next one to last just as long if not longer.
And remember if you know know the people in your PC shop you may not trust them to build you something at the right price.
Honestly, my PC is for internet, skype and the occasional steam game when I’m not using those. keeping my audio and visual info on those separate from my games is important to me.
And how long is the console cycle now? Because I’ve had my gaming PC for at LEAST six or seven years now and I’m still playing shit like Skyrim at max settings just fine, and the whole thing only cost me $600 to have built from scratch, plus a $200 graphics/RAM/mobo upgrade two years ago. I use it 12+ hours a day, every day, for gaming, movies, schoolwork, internet browsing. Still going strong.
The best thing you can do aside from learning how to build one yourself is to find a local computer shop owned by computer geeks. All the parts I got in basically near mint condition, ‘used’, because the PC shop guys are always upgrading to the very top of the line parts. They can build you exactly what you need for cheap. Talk to them, explain what you’re looking to get out of it (Graphics quality, smooth framerate, or just something that’ll run modern games at average settings for cheap.)
Console generations are now lasting longer than your average PC, so your argument of people having PC’s ripe for upgrading to gaming level doesn’t hold up I’m afraid.
PC gaming can provide mods and better graphical fidelity. But you have to remember it is a consistent and appealing aesthetic that makes visuals and you don’t need to be on the cutting edge for that.
People with 4+ year old last legs computers who really should just be buying a new computer anyways? Yeah. Drop an extra $200 on some bells and whistles when you replace it and gasp, you can play modern video games at console level graphics.
I think you underestimate how many people are using computers that are over 2 or 3 years old or computers that are just chugging along at the bare minimum.
OS X is Unix, we were talking about Linux.
Besides, a Mac is still a PC.
But no, fucking seriously, who doesn’t? That’s like not owning a TV. Or a phone. Except moreso. How does one function in modern day life without the ability to access emails and shit?
Then there’s the fact that a computer is a fucking computer. It does EVERYTHING. More than worth the extra $300. Or the straight up $300 to simply upgrade your current PC. Because you can do that shit.
But sadly, some of PC’s most highly touted games require a fairly powerful build that you will have to pay around $800 for (like Rising Storm, GTA IV, Arma, Skyrim, Heroes & Generals, Blacklight, etc).
The thing about that argument is that it assumes the person doesn’t already own a non-gaming PC.
I’ve always found people NOT factoring in the cost of just owning a non-gaming PC into the price point for a gaming computer. Its like talking to someone who wants to buy a PS4 and asking “you are taking into account the fact that you also have to buy a TV for that, right?”
