Nope, no weirdness here!
G4/FiM isn’t weird?
@Phantom Rider
You do realize how many male characters in the older saga looked feminine… Right?
Not to mention this came out in the 80’s and that (same gender relationships), that was a big “No No.” in children’s shows back then.
Also, the red haired one is more muscular.
Edited
That’s probably it.
G1’s style is more anime-like I’ve heard of, interestingly Toei Animation did that. Plus they look more like actual horses (regular G1, not talking about Tales).
I think one of ’em might be male. The old male ponies looked quite feminine to.
Yes, the one in the top-hat is a dude. (And has a deeper voice to.)
He probably has his hair braided ‘cause he’s a big Willie Nelson fan.
I personally love watching it. Patch was my favorite too, partially because they didn’t go down the usual tomboy route with her (even though I have a soft spot for them myself.) Like with the orphan thing, as you said.
But as a whole, thy do a lot of interesting things with the show, in my opinion. With Melody, they implied that she doesn’t have a father in her life, for example.
And though there were quite a few duds in the series, I love it. 8)

I’ve watch a bunch of episodes before, and it’s an ok cartoon. I actually did really like Patch and the episodes that revolved more around her. Kinda cool how they just straight up said she was an orphan who got adopted.
Those two ponies are Patch and Meadowlark; the nurses, I mean.
Patch is the tomboyish little pony in this series who just happens to be one of Bon Bon’s best friends. I’ve noticed a vast amount of shiptease moments between these two, in addition to reasons Bon Bon could bat for the other team (the boys in this series are pretty mean to her).
It makes some odd bit of sense that Patch being a pretty nurse holding a girl like that could be in an imagine spot about ‘the best dream.’
Meadowlark is her other best friend Clover’s older sister. She’s famous, perfect and gets married in one episode (if you look at the Cheval tag with the Everything filter, you’ll see what I mean).
If you really examine the comics, you’ll see that, in one of the covers, there is a portrait in the background. That is of Patch (or Bright Glow, whichever) wearing a tuxedo next to Meadowlark.
To be honest, I think you bronies should give this show a chance. It’s a good show with things for y’all to watch out for.

Same here, what’s the big shock about this?
..I don’t know what to think of this.
This show was so messed up.
What am I even looking at?
Yeah, alot of the boy ponies look similar to the girl ponies in that show.
Alot of fans were confused by this one to. >>133540 (Yes, that’s a boy pony in the “groom” outfit.)
Could be. From my memory, all the male ponies had short boyish cuts, but I could be wrong. I do notice his nose is a little bigger.
I think one’s male actually, with long Fabio-like hair. (Which was big in the ‘80s, I guess.) I don’t think they would’ve been able to get away with that personally, especially back then.
Also, I think this was already uploaded on this site, (without the text) but I can’t find it.
@Background Pony #DC0B
You’re not looking for a real woman like that, are you? :P
the art style is still a ‘turn off’ for me for most of the older franchises. fim has a style similar to anime, which isn’t as bad, while the others sometimes strongly show a particular slant towards being cutesy.
part of it’s the writing, too. some of those are shit. heck, “mare-do-well” is better than most of the early stuff even with it’s below-average writing for fim.
