Actually, IRL, people use small levers attached to the wheelchair to stop the wheels from moving. It doesn’t really help much unless you do both sides, though. For obvious reasons.

I think it also had to do with Tabitha’s voce for Derpy, as she apparently never asked if she was a filly or a colt which is why she sound male in most of her lines and the voice kinda came across as if she was mentally handicapped coupled with her clumsiness.

Well, not much there about him, other than the usual ‘the NSFW stuff will bother me’ and what appears to be a formal request from the voice actor’s mother that he not be “degraded or defamed in any way”.

As a note as it didn’t make it on this thread, this guy got in thanks in part to a Make A Wish drive (as described at EQD) - they helped to design his OC along with voicing the role.
 
And yes, this was a very tasteful and positive portrayal. It was there, but it wasn’t “LOOK LOOK”, instead shown completely capable.
 
Also, fridge logic here - the gears are likely part of a simple wheel locking mechanism so they don’t role forward or backward without a significant amount of force, allowing the pony to work with his forehooves at a stall, for example.

I think the show handled the character well. He has a simple speaking part that wasn’t out of place at all. He isn’t forced in as a bad OC (see Alex Glick on South Park). I just don’t like that black and purple on brown. Those colors just don’t look good to me, but that’s only my opinion.
 
The wheelchair had me interested. It’s more fancy-looking than I would have, but it doesn’t stand out at all in-show. Nopony is breaking their backs to help him, and he looks fine enough to get himself around (like most paraplegics). Well done character, if you ask me.
 
The voice wasn’t familiar, so I looked for it in the credits, and I had no idea who it was. It’s kinda neat that he got to voice his own OC. I’m still raising my eyebrow at the name “Stellar Eclipse” for a pony that sells Discord lamps. Maybe a side hobby to star-watching?

I think you mis-read what I was trying to say. My take on why Derpy was offensive (to the easily offended), was ’cause we all pointed and laughed our asses off at her.
 
By the same token this IS NOT offensive ’cause its:  
A) Just another (albeity now canon) sh–y OC and…  
B) Just plain unfunny!

The difference (I suspect), is that we all laughed at Derpy. As a Character, and nobody will give a toss about this Scene once the storm blows over. Plus the fact that no one really laughed at this Pony. Perhaps we should. But, even I’ll have to admit it would be an unbearably fake laughter at him.
