Indeed, why would you want tio be in a relationship with someone if you don’t want to/enjoy/are their friend? What’s the point?

I get so tired of people conflating “you are my friend” with “you are only my friend”. Shipping is not denied at all when an MLP character says “you’re my friend,” because they consider friendship to be a core value, something they put even more cultural weight on than they seem to put on romance.
 
Even here on Earth, “I like you as a friend” actually means “I am not even slightly attracted to you, but I do like you as a person,” not “I would totally hop in bed with you if we weren’t friends.” It’s a way of trying to let someone down easy and overcome the awkwardness that occurs when someone you thought was your friend turns out to possibly just be trying to get into your pants. In fact, being friends with someone before becoming their lover is more common than not. Most people would greatly prefer to date someone they can relate to as a friend who they also find attractive than someone who they barely know or have nothing in common with, who they find attractive.
 
Fluttershy considering Discord her friend is a necessary prerequisite to shipping. It is not sufficient; he might be only a friend. But saying he is a friend is not anywhere near the same thing as saying he is only a friend, and in fact, this is true for humans too. And Fluttershy is waaay too shy to ever hook up with someone who isn’t already a friend.
 
This scene is actually pro-shipping, not anti-shipping, and it’s totally bizarre to me that anyone could take it that way. It’s not saying there is a ship, but it’s certainly suggesting one could be developing. Discord’s expression isn’t because Fluttershy is friendzoning him… if you’ve also read the Friends Forever comic with Discord, with art also done by Tony Fleecs, there is almost an identical scene to this except with Scootaloo, and Discord has the same expression. This appears to be how Fleecs draws “Discord doesn’t know how to feel about physical affection from ponies”.

Friendship is the first step on the road to love.

This is one of my favorite friendships in the series, right after Rarity and Applejack. I just love how much Discord’s developed as a character over the past few years.

Guys, Discord wants to be in Fluttershy’s friend zone. All he wants is friendship, not romance. It’s mutual friendzoning, and it’s beautiful.

Bah friendzone/fedora jokes are overrated. I blame internets dumbasses for this trend.

People dont understand what friendzone mean, really.  
Is when someone is in love with one person and other only treat the first one as friend. In this case Discord hardly know what friendship is not to mention he would be clueless about love. So he cant get friendzoned when he dnt love her romantically. Dislestia is also not possible though epsecially since they are not even friends

Its out already, Discord make animals talk and it cofuse Fluttershy and Zecora. I think that Fluttershy/Discord is going to be reccuring theme and the more time they spent with eachother closer they get

He will get friendzone in every episode and comic and we still going to wait for them to kiss.

“You’re my friend” means something totally different than “I think of you as a friend” or “Let’s just be friends.” Plenty of people end up becoming romantically involved with friends, and in MLP world, where friendship is lauded even above romance, there is no “just a friend”. Friend is the most important thing you can call someone, and lover comes second.
 
So no. Fluttershy has not “friendzoned” Discord in the traditional sense of the term. Doesn’t mean they’re romantically involved or that they want to be, but it doesn’t mean they’re not, either.
