No, it’s actually a lot better. He can survive a lot of stuff, but he’s not immune to the pain that all of it brings. He can survive hot lava, but it hurts just as much as if you or I were in it, the only difference is that he has to stay in it and won’t have death take away the pain. He pretends that it doesn’t around others, because dragons are supposed to be immune to these things and he’s just more pathetic than most. He also pretends it doesn’t hurt so nobody questions why Rarity is always stabbing his weak little scales with pins and pouring lava all over his pathetic back, with all of his nerve endings completely exposed. Spike has survived through more pain than anyone else in all of Equestria could possible imagine, but he keeps coming back for more. ;3

Actually, in the scene Rarity wasn’t focused on Spike at all. She was obsessing over getting the dress Fluttershy was modeling to look just right.
