Well that’s misleading phrasing. I was born in 1991, but I knew that HFCS sodas started in 1985 or so.
I did drink three a day as a twelve (or so) year old, sometimes; That didn’t work well for my nose as it would then bleed.
And I heard that diet soda causes M.S. as well. I once drank something with aspartame in it (not a diet soda) and my parents thought I was acting strange.
I used to drink 2-3 cans a day. I’ve gotten down to 1 and actually dropped some weight. I also used to drink diet soda, but apparently some of them have sweeteners that sometimes end up being carcinogens (stuff that causes cancer) in larger doses, even if that “larger dose” is 1 can a day. (Which is probably the 1 good thing about HFCS; it’s not a carcinogen. :P)
It’s not often that I drink soda as of 2014. Though yes, soda with sugar is better off IMHO.
Yes, plain as day water.
A lot of soda companies that aren’t Coke and Pepsi use cane sugar instead of HFCS. It’s often slightly more expensive as a result but the taste is a lot better. I go to this one place about an hour away from my home that claims to have over 100 different brands of soda, and the root beers there are mostly made of cane sugar and taste so much better.
But nothing’s a replacement for thirst like water.
Particularly if they don’t have sugar in them, but have HFCS (High Fructose Corn Syrup.) I know it’s mostly in America at the time I post this, but here for a long time (1985-some time in the early first decade of the 21st century) the majority of Soda I drank was made with HFCS and it only made me thirstier and left “The HFCS feel” in my throat and mouth. Some soda is made with real sugar though (Jones and whatever Throwback soda and other smaller companies like Boylan) and those are more hydrating.
I’d trade Dr. Pepper for the Cherry Vanilla Coke they don’t sell here in the U.S. anyday.
