Funny thing is Shazam was also the name of the wizard who gave Billy Batson his powers. So yeah. Personally, I still refer to him as Captain Marvel.

A company called Fawcett Publications created the character, and since it was pretty much an exact copy of Superman, DC sued and gained copyrights to him. Also, “SHAZAM” was the magic word Captain Marvel’s alterego used to transform, but Marvel, who had another character also named Captain Marvel decided they would copy DC and sued them for copyrights, so DC decided “Screw it” and renamed him to Shazam.
