The author wished he was able to have more space to talk about Rough Diamond on “backstory and/or motive.” But he ultimately focused on Trixie and Babs Seed, which was for the better.

Still kind of wished more was known. Because we still aren’t sure if Rough Diamond was a good cop turned bad, or if she infiltrated the police for this occasion. Maybe some tie in on how she got her cutie mark.

It’s been four years and NO sign of Rough Diamond.

We’ve seen steam engines for sure (the trains) but not combustion (eg a piston-based engine). I would like to think that the Super Cider Squeezy 6000 was steam based (you’d need a nice fire to help process the cider anyway), and the floats in One Bad Apple were spring/mechanical power devices.

I don’t see what the big deal is. The show already confirmed that tanks exist and that the ponies are capable of building combustion engines.
 
It could be that some parts of Equestria are more open-minded to new technology.

“Fight” is a little too strong, in my opinion. Debate is to me sometimes preferable to cop-outs. Jumping to an early appeal to differences of opinion leaves a conversation feeling half finished.
