You mgiht be able to mine some vague acknowledgement in the comics, if you read them the same way Dan Brown reads the bible, but the anti twilicorn brigade has been utterly ignored in both the show and Equestria girls.

Yes but just because it’s canon, doesn’t mean it is the right way to do it. Just look at the New52 and the death of the SW Expanded Universe. Plus don’t you find it kind of weird that the only counterpart of Twilight Sparkle that’s still a unicorn is evil? It’s almost like Hasbro was trying to tell us something….
Well it’s not like Alicorn equals God. That’s something the fandom incorrectly misunderstood as canon. Heck, the actual canon says Celestia and Luna aren’t immortal, they just age a lot slower and can live for centuries, meanwhile Cadance and Twilight age normally because they became Alicorn via magic. And then we have Reflections that tell us “Not because you’re an Alicorn Princess means you are/have to be perfect.”
