Indeed, he couldn’t even get his “Lost Ones” comic, AND movie going hardly. I don’t know how he plans to have his “eckidnya” fanfiction going.
Speaking of which I remember according to the teaser for his (apparently abandoned) “Lost Ones” movie, guess what Ken called his production company? “Floating Island Productions.” (Makes it funny that Ken claims he only uses “his own ideas,” and such.)
Makes it very ironic when Ken claimed Ben Hurst (the guy he basically backstabbed when he was going to help him get a SatA.M. season 3 movie going with Sega. It was karma when Sega shot down Ken’s Sonic movie idea afterwards) “didn’t know how to make movies,” and such. (Ben actually worked in television, so it’s especially insulting of him to try to claim that.)

I think we’ve already reached that point long ago. Notice how much trouble he’s had getting his comic stared, likely in no small part due to both his history and the blatant copyright infringement he’s been doing.
If he keeps it up, nobody in the comic business will want to work with him, or publish his works.
I get the idea he wants publicity out of all this. In which case, congratulations, Mr. Penders, it’s working.
Notice he said he’s glad to rile the fans up. What a troll… And not the funny kind… I think he’s actually reveling in his notoriety.
Also, this…
Not true, Ben Hurst was. (Story editor and episode writer for the original SatA.M. Sonic cartoon.)
And on top of that, I have seen him threaten, and insult people before.
What the hell does he mean by that? I hope to God, he’s trolling, and doesn’t mean that…
HA! Good one.
he tells IDW how he can improve their new planned Sonic title.
Hey, maybe IDW would let him write for MLP:FiM?
Actually, you’d be surprised, as I hear paper comics still sell well.
(And actually, they are selling official Sonic comics digitally, but honestly I prefer the tangible versions.) In fact, I hear Sonic is among Archie’s best selling series (right behind their Archie & Friends Digest books) so sales might not be the reason. (Some suspect Sega is pulling the license to avoid any future legal problems with former staffers like Ken Penders, or perhaps Sega just doesn’t care for the series anymore. Much like how Nintendo cancelled the old Super Mario cartoons despite the huge ratings they had.)
A new timeline/canon would be nice, but “Boom” is a li’l too humor-focused at times, so I wouldn’t mind something that’s funny, but can be taken seriously at times too.
As a Sonic fan myself, I know that pain, as some here have given me heat for being a Sonic fan. Though, they are just a small amount, and surprisingly there are quite a few Sonic fans who are quite nice on Derpi’. Not sure how other brony sites feel about Sonic though.
Y’know, speaking of AoStH, I liked how post-reboot Archie Sonic brought back a few AoStH characters like Prof. Von Schlemmer, and Breezie, redesigning them a bit. I would’ve liked to see more come back. I kinda like seeing new versions of old characters. (Something MLP & TMNT have done for years.)
Scratch, Grounder, Coconuts were actually apart of Archie Sonic sense the beginning, but they disappeared when the comic started getting more serious, (and at times… “too serious” until they started to balance it later) but later they brought them back a few years before the reboot. (And they came back afterwards, though interestingly redesigned a li’l bit more like their game counterparts. Like Scratch now sports a headset like the “Clucker” badniks from Sonic 2.)

Well I don’t read the comics just for Sonic and Sally smooching and the pre genesis characters. In fact, a large cast is what makes planet Mobius (is it still called Mobius?) interesting. Different race, alliance, and motivation.
If you ask me on why the comic is so close on being cancelled, besides Ken Penders, everything is becoming digital now. I don’t think there are people who either purchase comics anymore thanks to Marvel and (use to be) DC and its PC culture shenanigans or that people read comics for free online. Let’s hope its the latter.
I wouldn’t mind seeing a separate universe like Sonic Boom did with theirs where its similar to Adventure to Sonic the Hedgehog but with extremely different timeline. Unfortunately given with how this site is extremely prejudice towards the Sonic fandom for ironic reasons they fail to see, I don’t know if I wish to share them.
The rebooted Archie Sonic is still better then Ken’s li’l “unrelated” fanfiction though. (And thank God Ian Flynn is a better writer.)
You may get your wish, there are rumors it is dying. (Just short of almost reaching the 300 issue milestone unfortunately.) That’s a bit harsh though, as some (like me) still enjoy the comics, (even though I do miss Finitevus, Scourge, Mammoth Mogul, ect. but regardless I don’t read the comics just for them as I enjoy the game, and cartoon characters in the comics too. Even some of the new post reboot characters) and some even prefer the reboot.
If you read the comics just for a few characters, or just to see Sonic smooch Sally, then you’re not enjoying the whole cookie. There are still other things to enjoy about Sonic.
I dunno, I’d rather the series continue personally, as I still enjoy it, not to mention it’s the only thing keeping the SatA.M. cartoon “Freedom Fighters” alive. (Like Sally, Bunnie, Antoine, Naugus, ect.) It’s bad enough we lost almost all the Archie characters, but if the comics die, so does the SatA.M. ones too, (Sega will never use them in the games, or has room to shove them in the already large cast) and we’ll only have the game & “Sonic Boom” canon as the only modern canons of Sonic left to influence future Sonic games/cartoons/ect.
I always see Sonic fans who only like the game, SatA.M., or comic-exclusive characters in the comics. Personally, I enjoy characters from all 3 groups, and I like how the comics are a mix of all 3 canons basically. The comics mix the game canon, with the cartoon one/s, and has it’s own canon, as well. No other Sonic canon uses all those things. (Or probably will ever be allowed to if the comics die.)

Christ I wanted to see Scourge make a comeback.
I wanted to know more about Finetivus.
But instead they cease to exist because of a manchild name Ken. smfh.
Just let Archie Sonic die already. It’s already bad enough that Sonic can’t hook up with Sally nor anyone anymore, but 95% of Sonic characters were sacrifice to…this.
Yeah, I know. I admit it’s… unique…
Ah, coolies! I’m a tag helperton! :)
You know I was talking about the art of Lara-Su Chronicles, right?
The Spike badge is for helping with tags.
Yeah, Ken’s art isn’t always good, but I did like his art for the Sonic SatA.M. “Complete Series” Shout Factory DVD set. (Despite half-face Sally, and midget Naugus on it.) He also did nice pencil art for the old Zelda comics. (Yes, he worked on Zelda art before making stories & art for Sonic.)
Huh, I didn’t notice that, what’s it for?
The style kinda creeps me out TBH, but I understand the decision to avoid getting in further legal trouble for copyright/trademark/whatever infringement.
Also, congratulations on getting the Spike badge!

It sort’ve is, seeing how the characters originated from the comics, and Ken Penders used to work on the Sonic comic series.
In fact, according to Ken it takes place where his “Mobius 25 Years Stories” left off, which oddly contradict an earlier statements he made prior that they’re “not animal people, and aliens instead,” and such. So it’s very confusing what Ken states about it.
I heard Sega already sued him prior, but they settled out of court.
Like I said, let him sue SEGA, he’ll be lucky if he walks out of court with his pants on.
Yeah, as I said I respect Penders as a writer, and I’m a fan of his works/characters that he introduced in the Sonic comic mythos/canon, but even I can’t deny he’s not a nice guy, and he’s being real sour grapes, and trying to put the blame mostly on Sega for all of this. (Probably sense fans have been calling him out on it…)
Sega & Archie never would’ve removed his characters, and such, if he didn’t start crap with them, and claim ownership of his Sonic OC characters. I even saw on his website back when this legal drama was barely even starting, he said he wanted them to get his permission, and pay him to use HIS characters in the comic. (Including ones that look like Sega’s characters as I pointed out, which is quite odd.)
Then a year, or so later, he then contradicted himself on his message board claiming Archie & Sega are “free” to use his characters, and acted like he had nothing to do with their removal…
The only thing I will kinda agree with Ken on is, I think he should get some cash for the book reprints/compilations. (Just a li’l, not alot, otherwise, they’d be to expensive to produce.)
Ken really doesn’t understand that licensed comic books work much differently then say, one he actually created.
Worst yet, he continues to act like he had nothing to do with the Archie Sonic comic’s semi-reboot.
Look at what he said here…
Yeah, and I’m sure the reason they’re doing that isn’t because they’re afraid of you stirring up more legal drama now…
Somebody actually told me, that Ken plans on suing Sega & Archie if he makes enough money off the “Lara-Su Chronicles” series. I don’t know if that’s true, but if that is the case, then maybe it’s for the best of the Sonic comic, that they do retcon his characters/events from the series, so that doesn’t happen. (Which could possibly kill the series, and sour Sega on licensing it. I heard they almost cancelled it thanks to the Ken Penders drama.)
Oh, not at all. This isn’t the typical drama that gave Sonic fans such a bad rep. This is a genuinely awful person trying to make himself sound more important than he really is.
What he says is ironic, because he didn’t try to negotiate with them at first… He just tried to copyright his OC characters behind their back, and threaten legal action after he got mad about “Sonic Chronicles” game supposedly ripping him off. He was so possessive that on his site I remember him saying we fans couldn’t post images of the comic without saying “Copyright Ken Penders” on it. (DESPITE the fact, Sega is the majority copyright owner of the comic, and the one who licenses/approves it. So once again he was trying to claim ownership of something that wasn’t his to begin with.)
Ironically, as you can see in the responses to the Tweet somebody even calls him out on twisting the situation. Also, worse yet, Ken even takes a shot at Sega.
Yeeeaaaah… That’s really going to make Sega want to negotiate with him with a passive-aggressive attitude like that… (Sorry, I guess I just needed to rant.)
Indeed… So not only did Ken kill almost the entire canon/contunity for Archie Sonic, but also previously killed a possible Sonic SatA.M. revival.
Here’s the excerpt from that article I linked to below, in Ben Hurst’s own words.
(Ben was a writer & editor for the original cult-classic Sonic SatA.M. series, and for awhile the only person who worked on that show who kept in touch with SatA.M. Sonic fans, and was enthusiastic to try to revive the show. Sadly, he passed-away a few years ago…)
Also, this was years, and years back, (when Ken was still writing for Archie) long before the recent Ken Penders legal drama over the comic.
So the maker of that article would have no reason to lie about, put-words-in-Ben’s-mouth, or slander Ken.
…I don’t know what to think honestly.
After reading Ben Hurst’s comments, my irritation has now bloomed into outright hatred.
He was more of a writer, then an artist, but he did pencil/draw a few old issues, and drew the boxart for the original Sonic SatA.M. TV series “Complete Series” DVD set.
Despite he never had anything to do with the production of said show.
Also, according to Ben Hurst, Ken blew his chances of getting a third Season movie/finale going for SatA.M. So Ken basically killed any chance of that show ever making a comeback… Makes it ironic some Archie-haters on DA were saying Ken had “more respect for SatA.M. then Archie Comics did” …(Especially, sense Archie is the only thing keeping the beloved SatA.M. “Freedom Fighters” alive still.)
On a more positive/interesting note, Ken used to do pencil art for the short-lived official Legend of Zelda comics from the early ‘90s. (But he didn’t write their stories.)
