Bringing up the two handguns made it misleading, but I originally meant to slide the subject into comparing the 5.7 and 4.6.

As far as HK’s official public relations disclosed, it was unsatisfactory to them, which is only as telling as much as you’re willing to believe them (no, I’m not implying what that statement made it sound like against the company), but I still would’ve wanted to see the numbers they came up with during their testings – to let the community come up with their own opinions on the results and maybe even obtain some sort of closure in agreement that it probably was rubbish in a short barrel.

The PMR-30 isn’t exactly common, but it’s still a current-production pistol you can order from any dealer; accounts I’ve seen suggest it’s actually a pretty nice .22Mag handgun and a lot of fun to shoot. It’s not unprecedented, though, since it’s essentially just an updated version of the Grendel P30. I imagine muzzle blast is pretty epic, since off-the-shelf .22WMR uses slow burn powder designed for rifle-length barrels.

I think it’s rather telling that the stated reason for the UCP/P46’s cancellation was that the cartridge wasn’t terribly effective out of a pistol-length barrel; the 4.6mm was specifically designed for the MP7 PDW, while the 5.7mm was built from the ground up to be used by both the P90 and what eventually became the Five-seveN. There’s also the whole handheld-hand-grenade factor, since HK’s beloved delayed blowback actions get along with high pressure cartridges like water and sodium, and the 4.6mm is preeetty high pressure. Both are reasons why NATO said N-O to the cartridge.

In any case, it’s discontinued. As much as I can recall at the late-ass time of this reply, I think it was partially based on the Series 80. Short answer: Yes.

Otherwise, another then-run-of-the-mill trend following double action auto piece.

They don’t get it. They just don’t.

X is the answer to all things.

Not de facto successor. More like inspired interpretation. You want a recent remote successor, search for Vltor’s disgustingly overdue resurrection project.

For the Witness series’ reputation, Google around on shooting forums and other socials – you’re bound to find how most seem to have frame durability issues and mag loading difficulties. I think the Elite models had the least issues.

Can’t find much on the Double Eagle either.

As for the TT pistols, Texas there pretty much laid a part of that out. Personally, I wouldn’t even relate the two; those kinds of comparisons carry too many variables and a more or less completely unrelated background to appropriately make a critical statement, but would make for interesting conversation and opinion exchanging. Now something like the Five-seveN and the dead P46 measured against each other would likely make for more compelling contrasts.
