You are right, they were. If I remember the article I read correctly Disney was the ringleader of that group. Also, if I recall correctly Sony was one of the only ones that wasn’t.
They were pretty much all doing that; DreamWorks, Pixar, Disney, ILM…
Oh wow. I didn’t realize the awkward position that would’ve put Hasbro and Disney in… Makes me wonder why Hasbro pursued this at all. I mean, talk about biting the hand that feeds you.

>”the sum of Disney’s parts far outweigh the oh so tragic quote unquote ’artistic’ fandom side that Disney supposedly clamps down upon”
Perhaps. I won’t claim to be knowledgeable of any Disney inspired fandoms. Though, if the MLP fandom is any indication of what fandoms can do, I suspect you may be underestimating just how impressive Disney’s fans could be, if given the same amount of freedom.
>”What good has Hasbro ever done for the world? they formed in the greedy 80s that exploited children. Don’t even compare them to Disney.”
Uhm, what do you mean by “exploited children”? I mean, I don’t exactly know the whole history of Hasbro, but aren’t they just a toy company? The worst thing I can imagine them doing is marketing to children, but that’s kind of a necessity…
The last thing I want is Hasbro to become some competitor to Disney.
Like it or hate it, the sum of Disney’s parts far outweigh the oh so tragic quote unquote ‘artistic’ fandom side that Disney supposedly clamps down upon.
Think about the countless of people who are entertained or inspired by Disney. Sure, some people might get the backhand of the mouse but look at their theatrical movies, animated shows, theme parks, and more.
Like they say: “The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few”
And if something was to upset that balance, you can certainly bet things would be worse than they are ala Star Wars.
That’s why Hasbro can’t become a threat to Disney. What good has Hasbro ever done for the world? they formed in the greedy 80s that exploited children. Don’t even compare them to Disney.
Oh? They brought a bunch of neck beards together who unrionicaly like Ponies? Wow, where’s that Nobel Peace Prize for Hasbro?
No, it’s better that Hasbro remain under Disney’s leash as they are now. In fact, they’re airing MLP on the Disney Channel in Germany. Can’t wait till it also happens to TDC in Ameria. Also can’t wait for the time when Disney buys out Hasbro in the not so distant future. Maybe they’ll put Ponies to better use than what Hasbro has messed up in. Heck, get Lauren Faust back in, let her take rightful control over the series away from some writers who can’t even draw like Meghan McCarthy.
_Well, this merger busting incident in particular is about the fact that Hasbro is currently very closely allied with Disney through distribution and production agreements, and if Hasbro had absorbed DreamWorks that would have made them direct rivals of Disney, which owns Pixar, the other major 3D animation company.
Ah, I see. So this is about companies duking it out with their IP? Well, I’d have a hard time faulting Hasbro for that… I mean, as a toy company, the franchises that they control are kind of their life blood.
I assume they mean “making real money”; part of why fan content is allowed to exist at all is that under U.S. IP law, if someone is making original works using trademarked and copyrighted characters/concepts, in most cases the IP owner would only be able to pursue action based on copyright infringement, and the damages they could recover are based on how much money was actually made by the infringer, as opposed to the however-high-the-judge-agrees-to damages involved in trademark infringement, where potential injury to the brand by dilution or defamation comes into play. An IP lawyer won’t even answer the phone for the tinybux most fan artist are making.
Plus, from what I heard, is that Disney would crack down on ANYTHING fandom related.( fanart, pmvs, etc)
Really? You do realize lots of [visual] artists in the fandom both send and receive paid commissions, right? That’s money made off of Hasbro’s IP that they’ve chosen to turn a blind eye to.
There are also lots of musicians that have set up Bandcamps and are making money off of remixes of Hasbro’s IP. To the best of my knowledge, all that money is going straight to the musicians.
In the end, it really is a good idea for Disney x Hasbro shipping.
Hasbro is also ruthless with its IP and licensing, which is why I had to import Lego 3866 from UK.
The only reason MLPFIM fan whatever is allowed to still exist is powerlessness in the face of the Streisand Effect. Hasbro still sends squads of law-ninjas when someone starts making money on fanmerch.
No please no! Disney would be ruthless against fan-content.
