i’ve not seen any development with Rarity and AJ that could be conssidered beyond friendship, starting by the fact they’re not in love with eachother, is not even on sided as sparity at least it, since they’ve kept Spike’s crush all over all seassons, while Rare and AJ aren’t anything else but friends so far, and surely this will remain like this.
Eh, I kinda get the impression that writers’ panel question put ‘em on the spot. Anyone’s guess just how much they’ll cleave to all those audience-feedback tidbits in S5, since I sorely doubt shippage ranks among their top twenty priorities.
Can’t help noticing most of the patronization took place back around S1 & S2…whatever else might go down, Spike’s come a bit further into his own since then. As for inter-main-cast development, that’s certainly a thing, but good luck getting any five Hardcore Analysts(R) to agree from what to what (besides, well, moar friendship), especially where bias & life-experience projections come in. As for my bias, no problem with certain mare/mare linkups here; Squiggletail/Treekicker just ain’t one of ’em. Too much “drama llama needs no-nonsense reins” tropage for my tastes.
I was talking more about the way she pinches his cheeks, pets and pats his head and baby-talks him, pretty much the same exact way she does to Opal, than treating him like a free bellhop service.
I totally agree about AU (it’s all headcanon that’s never gonna go anywhere anyway, so who cares?), but unfortunately for a lot of people shipping is totally serious business and arguments hinge on how “canon” it is or at least will be.
As for RariJack, while I have no interest in getting involved in real shipping discussions either I guess a hookup hinging on a relationship that’s been given a pretty impressive amount of development and progression for a kid’s cartoon over seasons is at least as valid as the kid-brother-crushes-on-his-older-sister’s-hot-friend trope. At least now that McCarthy and the other writers’ve been seen to be uncomfortable with and not keen on developing the latter further anyway.
I still think peeps blow the ‘pet’ thing about three miles outta proportion. Squiggletail doesn’t treat Spike too differently from Purplesmart in the random errand department. As for the squick factor, I just gotta roll my eyes at peeps’ eagerness to take umbrage with IMPLICASHUNZ(TM) in future-AUs. Be they Magic Lesbian Spawn(C) or dracopone, none of these fan-creations affect the actual show’s kid-safe contents, so what’s the point?
Incidentally, while I have zero interest in this going full ship-war, not so keen on hookups hinging almost totally on audience-amusing personality friction. AJ’s married to her trees & bushels anyway.
Well, in all fairness there RariJack is same age, same species, and they met that way, both as adults (yeah they’re both female but you could say magic in Equestria would make them having babies together possible, or artificial insemination/surrogacy, and actually nowadays science is even moving towards same sex reproduction with stem cells, it will be possible in the future). Even if Spike was aged up out of nowhere, like here, Rarity met him and has known him as a baby/little kid and treated him like one, even borderline like an infant or pet sometimes so it makes sense it can get a little squicky for people.

The thing is people didn’t used to mind Sparity as much on ED that I remember, it was pretty popular that’s why I was surprised. I guess times have changed.

EQD struck me as ludicrously elitist from the get-go, and I have even less use for xenophobia in a toon which makes the point of unifying type-factions lest everypone get fridged by weather spirits. On the other hand, can’t say I’d blame anyone for staying nervous around Patchwork McChaosPants, but that’s based on his prior record, not “race”.
To me, Sparity is a very controversial ship do to the age difference and species difference. You almost can’t post a Sparity pic without someone make a negative comment about it.
Yeah, never understood why people make such a fuss about fictional sentient interspecies romance. It happens in many fantasy and sci-fi stories, like the dwarf and elf romance in the Hobbit movies, though I guess people did dislike that.

Haha, that’s true about turquoise but seeing rarity have turquoise and Clarity and lavender as triplets just fits this pic hehe. in this version turquoise could be the first born and Clare or lavender could take the second or third spot :p
T’s a little hefty for anything but single occupancy, though C.C. & Lav might be a different story. In other news, my heart was in no way prepared for this.
