Rarity is a good pony but not best pony. She has a lot of wasted potential. They could’ve done so much more with her. She had great moments but I feel like too often they make her just a comic relief character.

Oof— Engine Sentai Go-Onger was one of the worst of the modern Super Sentai series; did it actually improve by getting Morphin’ Timed?

RPM has a completely different story than Go-Onger. The world has been taken over by a sentient computer virus with a robot army, and there’s only one human city left, which the Power Rangers defend. It’s like Power Rangers meets Terminator. Go-Onger was a comedy, but RPM is played much more like a serious action show (though it still has funny moments. It’s still Power Rangers, after all). It’s often considered one of, if not the best, Power Rangers series.

Fourze was great too, and it led into Wizard— also great— and since the theme of Fourze was Friendship and Wizard’s was obviously Magic… their teamup movie gets introduced at conventions as “Kamen Rider: Friendship Is Magic”.

I’m still working on Wizard, but I’ve seen Fourze. It’s damn good, with a great story and lovable characters. Perhaps not my favorite Rider, but not for lack of effort on Toei’s part.

Skip Gaim, though, it’s terrible. Starts out goofy and fun and then turns assholish and mean spirited about a third of the way through.

…Aaaand this is where we’re gonna have to disagree, emphatically. I’ve already seen Gaim all the way through, and I love it. It’s so freaking cool. The story is excellent, and the characterization is amazing. In my humble opinion, it’s one of the best of the neo-heisei series. If it’s not as good or better than Double, then it’s right up there. Second place by a razor-thin margin.

Though admittedly, it probably helped that I was already familiar with the writer, Gen Urobuchi. His stories tend to be rather dark, and I had already seen and loved one show he had done (Puella Magi Madoka Magica), so I knew what I was getting into.

Oh okay, yeah it was about Star Wars. Yeah, I’m serious, the originals were perfect, in my opinion. Funny meme, though.

Clicking my comment isn’t working for some reason so, I can’t see which one you’re responding to. Is this about Star Wars or King of the Hill? Either way, I’m serious.

You should definitely try and find a way to catch Kamen Rider OOO. It’s awesome, and it was probably the first Kamen Rider series that I really liked purely on my own. Here’s what I mean by that:

The first KR series that I watched all the way through was Kabuto, and my feelings about it were (and still are) rather mixed. After that I watched Double, since I had heard really good things about it. It was completely superb, as had been promised. But after that, I watched OOO purely out of curiosity. I had heard nothing about it, whether good or ill. And oh man, it was an absolute treat.

lately i haven’t been watching as much toku as i should (kamen rider ooo’s is scheduled way to early for my schedule) but i helps that one must put cultural and adaptation difficulties when watching both super sentai and power rangers (especially the disney and nick eras). and yes, RPM was awesome

For a while, I was really into Yu-gi-oh!. I still look back fondly on the pre-GX anime, but one element that I irrevocably cooled on as I got older was the card game itself. When I picked up Magic: the Gathering, I realized that M:tG was a better game in every single measurable sense.

One of the weirdest cases of me changing my opinion on something as I got older was Power Rangers. When I was younger, I absolutely loved it. Then, when I got a little older, I made an effort to distance myself as far from the show as possible because I wanted to be a “cool kid”, and Power Rangers was for babies and wasn’t cool (and yeah, I seriously want to go back in time and kick my past self for being so stupid).
After that, there was a long period of time during which I really didn’t think about Power Rangers at all. But then, on a whim for old time’s sake, I started watching Linkara’s History of Power Rangers series. His detailed analysis of the show reminded me of why my younger self liked it in the first place, and I gave it another chance (protip: if you want to get into Power Rangers, watch Power Rangers RPM). And I didn’t stop there: I went back to the source, and started watching Super Sentai, the Japanese show upon which Power Rangers is based.

The end result is that nowadays, I really love Japanese superhero shows.

I never said Episode 1 was cliche and nobody I’ve ever met has said that. The originals were cliche and that actually worked to it’s favor. It was taking familiar ideas, characters, and stories and doing it in a brand new way. George Lucas said they were like fairy tales for a new generation and I think he did it successfully there. It wasn’t 100% cliche either, it did new things, but the cliche things about it worked nicely in my opinion and weren’t by accident.

The characters in the original were not supposed to be the most original ever, but they had personalities and that’s key. The prequels failed in that regard among many other things. What was Qui-Gon Jinn’s personality? Sandpaper? Queen Amidala? Motor oil?

Even if you think the cliche personalities don’t work, I think that’s a different criticism than the lack of any personalities in the prequels. I’m not trying to debate, though, I was just genuinely curios how you could say they had any of the same problems as the original.

I can’t remember the last time I watched any SW movie, about a few years ago, but I remember them pretty well. I’m not saying they’re “bad,” as I enjoyed them, I even enjoyed the “fan-hated” prequel trilogy. (I will admit Ep.3 is probably my least fav’ one, sense as I said they hurried it a bit to much in some parts of it.)

Well, for instance you say the characters in Ep.1 were “bland/had no character,” was cliche’, and such. Though, some could argue Luke Skywalker is the typical “young hero,” Obi Wan the “typical old wise dude,” Leiga the “princess/action girl,” Han-Solo the “anti-hero who becomes a nicer guy,” and such. I don’t know, they just didn’t connect with me as a kid. (Though, I don’t hate them, or anything.)

Also, honestly, I’m not that big a SW fan to really care to continue to debate this. (I’m sorry it’s just I’ve been debating with people on this site about so many other things recently, I kinda want a li’l “break” from it.)

actually sometimes nostalgia makes me disappointed when i look up on some of the stuff that wowed me as a kid. what i thought was awesome now is either so-so or outright childish.
on the opposite is what i thought was crap back then is actually a good read (like ultraverse’s prototype comic, back then i thought it was an iron man rip-off but now i can see some of the depth in that comic)
