Before you get the wrong idea, I liked EQG and its sequel and the stinger at the end of the latter has gotten me hyped to see what’s gonna happen next.
Not the most flattering analogy, but the point is still there I suppose.
I’m just saying, this is like going into a dumpster full of trash, and then complaining about how you don’t like trash, and then you say that you don’t wanna talk to other people walking by about trash, even though you’re still in the dumpster.
DO I HAVE TO START BREAKING THINGS AGAIN?
And yet you say this in an Equestria Girls post.
Oh come on man, let’s not go overboard here. Hasbro was going to make more ponies one way or another, it was just fortuitous that had Faust’s vision to give their toy commercials some independent value. The same principle applies to the movies. They’re not perfect, but neither is the show. We find what they offer to be very enjoyable, and I must say, EqG surpasses Monster High any day of the week. Not saying you have to like it, I just don’t agree with your critiques.
but aren’t little girls the target of the franchise? then again, non-target money is graciously accepted
The difference was that FiM was started with an artistic vision behind it. Not just “Monster High makes a lot of money, let’s do the same thing”
>And you seem to once again be forgetting the remarkably positive reception that Rainbow Rocks received.
I’m not forgetting it, I’m ignoring it. I don’t give half a fuck about Equestria Girls, I’m never watching another movie of it again, I fucking hate myself for even wasting my time checking out the Holiday special, and I think that the time spent on Equestria Girls could be better spent on the core show, because I want to watch My Little Pony, not My Little Smelly Human. ALRIGHT?
Now drop the topic, I fucking hate talking about Equestria Girls, I’m inevitably nailed to a cross.
Except that’s actually the official answer DHX gives at panels. Humanized fanart planted the seed in Hasbro’s mind for Equestria Girls. I’m not saying Monster High didn’t also play a role in their decision because it obviously did, but it probably at least gave them the idea to make it an MLP spinoff instead of just making a new IP.
In addition, Equestria Girls merchandise outsold Monster High very well last holiday season and it looks set to do so again this year, so clearly there’s some “artistic merit” to this series you’re just not seeing. And please don’t say it’s because kids don’t know any better, because that’s just insultingly dismissive of MLP & EQG’s target audience.
>I just don’t see a point for
Equestria GirlsMy Little Pony to exist other than just to promote anewtoyline.FTFY
>a pointless waste of time that constrains the source material
How do you figure?
And you seem to once again be forgetting the remarkably positive reception that Rainbow Rocks received. It’s successful because it’s made with the same (if not better) quality that the show enjoys.
I don’t buy that at all, it’s seems like bullshit spun from some auto-flagellating dickhead who’s trying to go “WE DID THIS! WE DID THIIIIS!”.
More likely that Hasbro saw Monster High, and wanted to make a copy of them to rake in some of their dough, forgetting that trying to copy something to copy their success NEVER FUCKING WORKS.
hasbro probably saw all the humanized pony art and saw there’s a market for that IMO
Honestly, I just don’t see a point for Equestria Girls to exist other than just to promote a new toyline. I just think it’s a pointless waste of time that constrains the source material, and the only reason why it didn’t tank was because of it’s connection with something good.
But hey, that’s just my opinion. And since Equestria Girls will be successful no matter what I say, it doesn’t matter.
While part of your comment is sensible, what doesn’t make any sense is to say the show has artistic merit but the EqG movies do not. Same writers, animators, musicians, directors, VAs, the movies have the whole works. Even the first one was just as good as the show, and Rainbow Rocks in particular exceeded most people’s expectations.
They’re not avoiding ponies because they don’t like them, they’re avoiding ponies because Equestria Girls is Human Doll Advertisement Time. They already promote the Pony toyline about 515 minutes a year, best not squander the 60 minutes of the Human dolls.
I’m not saying that the show and the movies are nothing but toy adverts (Well, the show at least. In my eyes, Equestria Girls has no artistic merit whatsoever), I’m just saying that’s how Hasbro sees it.
@FancyCat2008
since that’s the TV show is for, it would make sense to have little to no ponies in the movies since they’re promoting the EG sub-line after all.
unless that is, it becomes plot relevant to have ponies in the sequel(s).
It seems to me as if you have a very biased opinion against Equestria Girls, if you honestly believe the creators are intentionally avoiding ponies for some reason.
Because it’s not like the exact same goddamn people aren’t making FiM as we speak.
It seems to me. When the words “Equestria Girls” are on-screen, the show avoids ponies as if they carried the plague.
Oh I didn’t mean for that example to be taken so literally… I was just trying to say that spending more than one or two short scenes in Equestria is alot more likely if EQG3’s plot goes the way the series seems to be hinting at.
What makes you think it will be so evenly split?
Considering that there’s an actual pony movie due out in 2017, and EQG3 has been confirmed, a “transitional” film with half it’s story in the human world, and half in Equestria, isn’t all that far fetched.
That would require way too much time with ponies.
Assuming EQG3 is happening and involving Scilight, I would love to see Scilight accidently go through the portal, have struggles with the pony side, and SS is the one go to across and get her back - at the same time resolving issues with Celestia.
>handed it off to her cure-all understudy
Yeah, that’s probably the simplest and most evident explanation. Since Celestia apparently didn’t understand Sunset, like, at all, perhaps she thought Twilight could relate to her better.
It’s still weird though.
