No offence taken at all, I understand what you mean. When I look at him, he reminds me (which I refer to) of other characters just like him (specifically the protagonists of the games Persona 3 and Persona 4). However, those characters are exceptions as they are the main characters in a game, hence you get to control their actions and decisions. On their own, they have no expression or personality, just like Flash Sentry. That’s why I felt fine with him, having no character and all.
 
I also remember reading from one of their character descriptions for one of the Protagonists in another game of the Persona series says “His defining characteristic is that he has no character.”  
In the end, I don’t really think a characterless person (or a deadpan) is that bad. No wonder why most include him in any Pony x Persona Crossovers.

Since when do they teach soldiers how to throw snowballs? I’m pretty sure they teach them more important things at the Royal Boot Camp (Like how to protect the princesses and how to protect Canter from a devastating attack.) than teaching them something that you used to do with your siblings in you backyard when you were 5 years old. (And you know how Trixie is. She was just fucking around, that’s all. Twilight probably doesn’t even mind her teasing anyway.)
 
That, and while he maybe considered a soldier, since he is part of Cadance’s Royal Guard, I usually refer to Flash Sentry as “Generic Background Character with the Personality of a Celine Dion Cardboard Standee that Almost Nobody Cares About and is Only There For Sake of Giving Our Main Protagonist a Love Interest”. I know, it sounds harsh and I know you’ve probably heard all of this before, as just the simple utterace of Flash’s name causes complete rage and mass butthurt Watch…

You see? He causes more anger and butthurt than Mare Do-Well, King Sombra and the entire Alicorn OC drama combined! But, if Hasbro can try and put effort in developing his character just a little more and actually give him a motherfucking personality side of “Twilight Sparkle’s Hot Human/Stallion, Yet Mindless Boyfriend”, then everybody else might actually give two fucks about him. Then again, Hasbro was given two movies, TWO FUCKI?NG MOVIES, to do that and so far, they’re still at the drawing board (Hell, this was probably how the character was created), so I don’t have high hopes of seeing this character in Equestria Girls 3 until he… um, what was it… oh, yes, that’s right! DO SOMETHING!!!! ANYTHING!!!! (Then again, if you like this character, that is perfectly fine. We all have that character we love, but almost everybody else hates. I, however, want to see potential in this character and I want to see some good come from this character, just as I do with every other character in this show. It’s just hard trying to find this character memorable or finding something memorable that he did.
 
Then again, what do we know. All we’re doing is over-analyzing (Well, mostly me, anyway.) a cute, harmless and silly little featuring our favorite ponies (Well, most of them, anyway.), so let’s just agree that he retaliates, yes, and then a snowball fight does happen, but it is all in good fun. (I want to say I’m sorry just in case I offended you, or if I sounded a little mean. I get like that when I start ranting.)

You can say a lot of bad things about Flash Sentry, but ‘is an asshole’ isn’t one of them (when brainwashing doesn’t apply). So, if he’s decking Trixie in the face as someone of his temperament, it’s an act in good fun rather than to be a jerk, so we shouldn’t overanazlyze it… Like, exactly how we’ve been doing.

In essence, you tend to act more brazen around your closer friends, but not the closest, because they know it’s all in good fun. Besides, if they do get hurt by what you did, don’t lie, you’d be the very first on the floor apologizing to them. Remember how the entire Mane Seven went bandwagon-like to apologize to Pinkie after they realized their ignorance had hurt her?
 
As a final thought, your graph reminxs me of the curve that represents the uncanny valley.

Huh, you’d think I remember that math is an evil concept and I shouldn’t use it since I hate it too. I’m saying it’s like this:  

 
From left to right for people you’re throwing a snowball at, if you see a person you hate you’d probably throw it at their face and probably would have put a rock in it first. If it’s a complete stranger you’re neutral to, you’d hesitate and only go for a standard shot, as you probably don’t want to come off as a jerk. Now, when you get to your friends, the people who know you aren’t a jerk or accept you as one anyway, you’d go all out, surprise attacking them with snowballs to the back of the head, the face, snow tackles, etc. Then with people you feel closer affection for, like a lover, you might do the same, but with more lovey-dovey stuff.

I’d much rather keep math out of this. Psychology and inter-personal relations have so many factors to consider and so many variables to take into account that can affect the results, calculating the turbulent flow of a fluid is five times easier.
 
And that video shows how some people have skewed priorities. I know I don’t baby my pets.
