Or maybe, just maybe, she’s called “Button’s Mom” because that’s all that is to her? In the original animation, she does nothing else, and has other purpose, than reacting to her son’s antics. That’s all she does. She is “Button’s Mom” because “Button’s Mom” is literally her entire character in the first place.
 
Also, your logic, that no shipping tag means that them being incest fuckbuddies is standard, is… wonky, to put it in a nice way. Besides, you’re completely wrong in that regard anyway.
 
Incestous relationships between Button and his mother are actually quite popular. So, there is really no need for you to grasp at straws and pull shit out of your ass.

Yeah, that’s one of the fan names. So, whilst it’s used a lot in fanfiction, the owner of Button’s adventures could always say her name is something else

She’s called Button’s mom because we don’t know her real name. The story is told from Button’s perspective, and he calls her mom. Her name isn’t neccesarily ‘Mash’, since not all characters in MLP take their family name. (ie Big Macintosh)  
And names are usually related to cutie marks, her cutie mark is a bottle of milk, nothing to do with the word ‘Mash’.
