I only like the ship because unlike the Flashlight shipping, it’s being shoved down the viewer’s throat in the movies. Yes it’s true that the image is how it’s started, but couldn’t that be said the same with nearly other shippings such as DerpyxDoctor Whooves, LyraxBon Bon, etc? But what really makes this shipping different along with the previous ponies I’ve mention a sentence ago is not because of the image itself, but the idea and the setup of what makes it special.
 
TL;DR  
Cometlight is a shipping that is loved by the same fans who created this  
Flashlight is a shipping that force fans to like it and try to make it canon.

Again, that image was literally the only reason the ship existed. I think that was when the term “ponies standing next to each other” originated, to mock the perceived grasping at straws to justify Twilight getting with this dude. The fandom at large didn’t care, but it got a surprisingly large hatedom as well.

Whatever you say about FlashLight, you can at least admit they’ve talked, he’s smiled charmingly at her, and she batted her eyes back. That’s some ship fuel there.
 
But for Comet, the ship started with just this.

I think they see it as replacing one bad ship with another bad ship. Cometlight was never very popular even at its peak.

I couldn’t tell the difference between them at all at first. I thought it was Flash battling his evil twin, attempting to steal his waifu from himself.

That’s how FlashLight fans see this. CometLight fans on the other hand see this as him taking his waifu back.

That’s the one problem I have with the CometLight ship: a majority of it ONLY seems to be done for the sake of being an alternative to FlashLight. Granted I can completely understand not like either Flash or FlashLight (though I am a fan), It irks me to the point where I just can’t enjoy CometLight. I dunno, it just seems more petty to me, like “this is the best ship ever” when all they really did was stand next to each other. But then again, considering the other ships we have that I kind of like, I supposed I can’t really complain about it too much.
 
That said, I am all for seeing any of the characters involved if it doesn’t involve said bashing. Or heck, maybe make them rivals; that would be fun to see, especially if Twi is oblivious to it.

That may some what be true, but some of the CT work I seen gets some positive views(Check the pairing with him and Sunset Shimmer or Trixie). It’s just if it involves Comet getting the better of Flash, or him with Twilight in a romantic setting, then it gets downvoted to heck.

I think I know why this is exempt from the ‘hate Flash so much to kill him’ crowd, Comet Tail.

I thought people would like this more, because of Flash getting his ass murdered by another character. But NOPE!
