Perhaps, I admit “Epic Wub Time” (a popular fan-animation) was pretty funny, and I liked their fan-voices in it.
 
And yeah, nothing against ’shipping, but it is getting rather overdone in the fanbase. (And some other fanbases to. When I look up “Happy Tree Friends” on DA, surprisingly, alot of it is ’shipping to.)

Honestly, I don’t ship them together. Enough shipping already. However, I’d see them as best friends, rivals, and roomates. Those two could make one hell of an interesting sitcom!

Never got why they were always considered “friends/soul-mates.” They never ever even interacted. (Heck, up until “Rainbow Rocks” they never even appeared in the same episode.)  
I think fans like them together, because they’re both “musical” ponies/people, and because they seem opposite on the musical genres offering an “odd couple” aspect to them regardless if they’re portrayed as platonic, or ‘shippy.
 
But seeing as how “Rainbow Rocks” kinda made the fanon “Lyra & BonBon” ’shipping “canon,“ I’d rather they don’t do the same for these two officially, and I wouldn’t want them to adapt to much “fanon.” (And no, I’m not one of those “panda-ring” people. A few fandom nods are fine, but not to much.)  
But that’s just my opinion, I don’t want to start a huge debate about that.
 
I suppose them being “musical rivals” kinda would be kinda funny.
