Really? I always just thought that “bae” was a cutesy diminutive form of the pet nickname “baby”. :)
Oh wait you are a prescriptionist. Nevermind.
Well, the scripts of the past invented thousands of shorthands for exactly the same purpose: save a few letters.
was invented because writing "at" needs 2 letters, while writing "
” needs 1 letter.And they don’t imply intellectual inferiority. At least when Isaac Newton’s time (350 years ago), the & sign was still frequently used in formal writing the same way as the word “and” (I read some letters written by Newton, and they contained quite a few &).
Let’s be fair, you have no real way of knowing just how relevant it was back then.
I’m glad that there are people who get that reference. Odd that a character from a short novel that mostly satirized children’s literature of 150 years ago is more relevant now than ever before, but there you have it.
Yeah, I figured you meant the one around “Jabberwocky”, but I couldn’t remember the exact details, so I chose to be facetious instead.
Check chapter 6 of Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There.
Yeah, its usage here is especially odd.
@Background Pony #0DD6
It’s just a shortened version of ‘baby’. You know, because typing that one extra character is so bloody hard/time consuming. /shaking my head
The C-list Batman villain?
I would assume it’s short for the term of endearment, Baby.
You know, like it sounds if you try to say it.
@Scrounge
…If she’s “before anyone else”, why is she less important than this book? Do we live in a world where words have no meaning?
@Lawful Girly
Oh, God, why? Keep your shitty, ridiculous terms out of my pony art. If I’m not mistaken, it stands for ‘before anyone else’, which is a ridiculous term for someone’s significant other, in my opinion. Also, I wish people would stop murdering the English language with these shitty internet acronyms. I get that it’s faster and easier to use them in IM and text messages, and that’s fine, but when people start using them in actual speech I start to lose my bloody mind.
“Bae”? Sounds Korean, I dunno.
Hell, if you can’t even manage to put down the books for that one, at least go and take the damn book with you, you’ll seem slightly less uncaring.
