No that build doesn’t fit RD at all. If she’s going to be a runner and play sport along the lines of soccer she needs to be a lot taller. That height can be more in the legs which needs to actually look like it’s firing on all pistons instead of being all stumpy. Might have trouble in the lung capacity department. Also the body needs to be versatile enough to be good at other sports.This body seems too limiting. I’d say at best RD looks like a shorter power thrower.
The skin thing never mattered to me. Doesn’t matter what race or skin tones Rainbow has.
To be fair, that build fits Rainbow Dash, she actually looks like an athletic girl there. Pinkie is the one that looks off with that build.
She looks more like a child than an athletic adult there. That could be the anime style, though.
@RaineV1
Dark-skinned, but notice she has a build basically identical to Pinkie Pie here. Which continues to support you can get away with one or the other sometimes, but usually not both.
Also I do find it interesting both of those pics have exactly seven downvotes.
Here’s another decent dark skinned Rainbow Dash picture that has a good rating: >>793806
Now that I look at that other picture again, she totally looks like a pokemon trainer/ early 90’s rapper.
This. I mean, I don’t like the hairdo, but that’s a matter of opinion; giving her a body type like this, though, just completely destroys her image of speed. Though, as a couple of people have mentioned, Fluttershy looks pretty good here.
@Ranch
Yeah, that’s how you do it right.
@Background Pony #9113
Well, she can be blue and still get upvotes, actually… Though the previously-linked >>605721 isn’t doing too bad on the votecount (44 up, 7 down as of right now) and she’s both athletic and dark-skinned there.
The crux of my usual beef with these images.
Oh, no, I wasn’t saying this was downvoted just for her having dark skin. That’s a factor, but art would also get downvoted if she was drawn as stringy and still light-skinned enough everyone can pretend she’s white at least.
Both dark skin and actual athletic builds get downvoted on here, put them together and it’s going down pretty damn quick. The former is downvoted with a lot more venom, but the latter carries its own brand of “SHE LOOKS LIKE A MAN” venom (and a silly amount of time “manjaw” comments because a lot…of posters apparently think women should look more like Doxy’s blow-up dolls).
The only safe bet is that she’s both white, and has a waifish build indistinguishable from the other characters. Anything else is an anomaly.
Yeah… there is truth to that. Will admit that some downvotes are, in fact, because of skin color.
I just get annoyed when people act like that is the only possible reason… that there is no other alternative… because that’s not true. Maybe they just down like the style the artist uses. Maybe they don’t like, as mentioned earlier, that the artist disregards canon character traits for the sake of diversity. Maybe the image just is straight up bad. There are plenty of other reasons why people would downvote an image…
Most definitely. But skin color tends to be the big elephant in the room factor. I’m just saying that for the average artist, you have to sell a dark skinned humanization twice as hard.
I’m just trying to make the point that maybe… just maybe… there are factors other than skin color involved.
It doesn’t completely disprove it. In fact most dark skinned humanizations get downvote bombed a lot. The art has to be particularly well made to curve that. The picture I linked was a slightly above average in skill drawing of a black RD. If the picture had been drawn with less skill it would have been downvoted to hell.
And here we have… the obligatory “downvotes because dark skinned” post. Because that is literally the only explanation. The only possible one… nothing else.
Let’s completely ignore the fact that there was an image that was linked earlier that completely disproves this… it’s not important. Only white humanizations get upvoted and that’s a fact.
Drawing her stringy and athletic will get downvoted just the same. She has to be a waifish white girl to really get upvoted.
This sooooo much. Does this Dash look like she can go toe to toe with Ponyvile’s best athletic?
yeah I think Fluttershy came out pretty cute here, though her arms are pretty well built for a girl who doesn’t work out
Yeah, I know where you’re coming from. I just wanted to be sure. Rainbow Dash as a human wouldn’t look like the Rainbow Dash in this picture under any circumstance, body shape wise. Hey maybe these are just fans cosplaying as ponies!
Suddenly the picture makes sense!
Though honestly I have little issue with how Fluttershy looks. Though I think her face would be long not round, that’s me nitpicking. And personal tastes…
I mean that there’s been a trend over at the putrid mess that is Tumblr for far too long now in which artists draw characters in rather unconventional ways to make somewhat of an undertoned statement in support of all body types, races, and genders. It’s gotten to the point where they ignore any established character traits in a personality from a tv show or movie just so they can stuff in as many culturally subjective qualities as they can. It’s so obvious that Rainbow Dash could not be overweight in any way, but this artist draws her with extra weight JUST so people will message them on Tumblr in protest against their weight-positive thinking and they can reply in anger and frustration with how closed minded and racist/homophobic/whatever that totally reasonable person was. It’s infuriating that they think they’re in the right when they pull stunts like this. Oh, and I guaran-fucking-tee you that this wasn’t supposed to be drawn in the style of Steven Universe. This has been going on too long for that.
That one actually looks nice though. Body and clothes kinda fit, and only a small part of the hair is shaved, not shaved to the point of a flippin mohawk.
But seriously, if the artist made it so that Dash was lean and athletic, most people probably wouldn’t complain. (except for maybe the skin)
Pretty much this.
