It’s not so much bunk as it’s just irrelevant. The test works fine, but you can’t really do anything with it aside from make broad generalizations that will rarely be completley true in individual cases. The problem is that the personality traits outlined in the results of a Myers-Briggs test are more like defined traits of someone’s personality, rather than defining traits themselves.
 
The only thing you can predict with any degree of proficiency by looking at the results of someone’s Myers-Briggs test is how they will awnser questions on a Myers-Briggs test. Past that it’s pretty much just conjecture.

From my experience people who actively participate in fringe groups and internet forums in general have a strong predisposition towards being introverted and intuitive. That’s purley anecdotal, mind you, so I don’t really have any data to back up that claim.
 
That being said, there are sixteen resultant types in a myers-briggs test, so even if every type had the same incidence then then each would only have about 6.25% of the population. So saying that one is rare is kind of a misrepresentation when in a way they are all rare.
 

 
Even the most common type, ESFJ would only be representative of about 12% of the population. INFJ’s are certianly less common by direct comparison, but realistically they aren’t all that much more rare than a lot of the other types.

Actually, one of my managers had a little folder full of Myers Briggs types and how to deal with them. It was actually kinda creepy to read. It had things like, how to reward this sort of person, how to effectively punish this sort of person. Common problems to face. Stuff like that. It also had the tests we took with the job application. (I fudged mine to seem more employable… Which is probably part of why he always came off like an idiot).

its only as credible as the answers given… however it does have very real applications in the business world. Its a fair bit more ‘not stupid’ compared to a horoscope or a cosmo quiz. But it is no substitute for a full psychoanalysis by a trained professional. it has its merits and its fun. .

Its almost like the Myers-Briggs has been widely discredited as meaning anything more significant than a horoscope or something.

keep in mind that the pool of ponies was a very specific demographic… (mostly semi prolific tumblr blogs)I tried to get a good variety but a lot of people never messaged me back. if everyone had we would be looking at more like 100 bronies… including writers, music makers, animators, and critics… oh well. still fun :D

I’m surprised there’s as many INFJs as there were; it’s supposed to be rare.
