I mean, who’s gonna say “No” to something charitable?
I wouldn’t put it past Hasbro, or any corporation, to put a stop even to noble causes. Sure it’d be bad PR and they seem to know well enough to avoid it, but I wouldn’t be too surprised if they laid the law hard even on charities.
I do hope for their sake they did make some kind of deal with Hasbro, or if there really is some kind of exemption I’m not aware of for selling copyrighted IP’s for the benefit of charities. Though I imagine if it were the latter, Hasbro would have to approve of which charity it would go to. If someone tried to sell something copyrighted to me, I wouldn’t want them sending their proceeds to anti-gay organizations.
It might be similar to how Hasbro treated 3rd party Transformers at official conventions: they know it’s happening, but since it doesn’t affect them very much they’re willing to turn a blind eye.
Of course, from what I hear nowadays Hasbro no longer allows 3rd party stuff to be sold at Transformers conventions because now they’re directly competing with Hasbro product. For example, back when Transformers Animated or Prime was on the air, they didn’t pay so much attention to people making 3rd party Devastators or Menasors or Superions or Bruticus…es? But now that Combiner Wars is out and Hasbro has official product of those characters, they no longer tolerate them.
In this case, though, maybe a deal was worked out? I mean, who’s gonna say “No” to something charitable?
I’m not too familiar with Muffinshire or the legality of selling fanworks so I’m sorry if I sound like an idiot here, but having read the description, isn’t it illegal to sell something based off someone else’s IP that isn’t licensed? Or does it become legal if it’s for a charity? Or did Hasbro give him the license/permission to do so?
I just ran across this, checking for new pages in the “Twilight’s First Day” series. Got my copy of the book preordered; thanks for the heads-up, Muffinshire!

Best. Description. Ever.
Nopony had the guts to tell Celestia that she dances like an epileptic tatzlwurm.
Couldn’t have said it better if I was paid cash money to try.
‘‘She might disagree with you on that.’’
The pony on the right of the poster seems to be doing exactly that, so Twilight may or may not have an excuse.
Don’t be a rectangle.
Got it.
Nah, that’s still going on.
This is Muffinshire’s contribution to a charity book project. Check the source link for details.
