And I know some people will say ‘they just really like Twilight and want to give her the most important role’, but in a lot of these cases I described, my response would be that ‘it wouldn’t even be Twilight anymore’.

Powers that involve massive amounts of physical ability and/or physical violence. Stuff you don’t associate with a magic user like Twilight. That’s not to say she can’t have any physical powers, but they should not be dominant. Her identity as the ‘mage’ makes her crucially unique.

Actually when you think about, most of the more popular unicorns actually have less restrictions then Twilight (at least in terms of powers. Her identity as a high IQ genius gives an additional well for well-fitting abilities, so it evens out.)
 
Rarity is enough of a physical fighter that with her crystal and transformation magic, she can fit anywhere between crystal mage to elegant assassin like Vega.
 
Trixie has all the ambition as a wizard that Twilight has but she has an additional identity of being an illusionist.
 
And Sunset is even better off then Rarity, cause not only is she associated with powerful magic and fire, due to her presence and appearance, she could pass for a full force protagonist almost as easily as RD or AJ.
 
There is pretty much always a role in a party or an anime for a person with high intellect and/or magic. Giving her such ill fitting roles either power or personality-wise is completely nonsensical.

She does have the ‘Magic is my Talent’ thing going for her. That frees from the ill-fitting power blockage that other unicorns have.

This is amazing. There seriously isn’t enough badass wizard Twilight Sparkle. Love Spike here too.
 
That’s a disturbing trend I’ve noticed. Too many artists that do draw her badass give her cosplays or powers so incredibly ill-fitting for Twilight, sometimes just on the fact that its a ‘main’ protagonist power or something.
