To be honest, and getting this off my chest, but I hate Darizotl. But the huge major difference is that the fandom shoe fucking horned up the alley while the EQG movies even the sequel forced that a lot as well. I absolutely hate it because it’s just another generic villain x hero ships as always. I absolutely hate that trope. I can’t see Ahuizotl and DD being married in the canon, nor are they playing it big to see who’s the more powerful “fiancé”. The fan fictions are extremely revolting, even if they are AU, I just hate the fact that Ahuizotl is an awkward social villain, I just hate it. Hence why I ship Ahuizotl and Mane-iac because it makes extreme sense. Since Mane-iac is A replacement of Ahuizotl being fictional.

It’s not even technically canon. Yes, they are hinted to have a crush which sets it at closest, but are you really so desperate for a love interest that you’ll just accept the first thing that happens? Where’s the chemistry? Where’s the build up? It’s boring. It’s not a romance between Twilight and Flash, it’s a romance with Twilight in it. In this regard, Flash is just a prop.
 
Maybe that’s just my opinion, but there it is.

The thing about a romance is that for it to be convincing, the characters have to be. Flash is not only one dimensional, but almost tailor made to be perfect, so he’s pretty much unable to be this without some drastic changes.

I can respect that, though I can’t agree with it. Haven’t had a chance to watch Equestria Girls: Rainbow Rocks yet, but I thought Dreamy Cutebottom Flash Sentry was decent enough as a minor character in Equestria Girls; since I never had any particular desire to see romance in the show, though, the romantic subplot (such as it was) failed to win me over. Maybe the third movie will finally develop it more, maybe not.

Well, to be honest, the reason why you don’t see many people reaffirming why they ship/don’t ship this is because the lines were drawn pretty long ago. Even Rainbow Rocks didn’t do much to win over or lose any shippers. I suppose that’s a problem in people are more concerned over who’s right and not asking about why they may be in the right.
 
To answer your questions, those may be some alternate ships, and they may have merit. Me, I can conceivably ship Twilight with a number of those ponies and be fine, but I ship FlashLight the most since it has the strongest support in canon, regardless of your feelings on the subject.
 
You’re right there’s flaws in Flash’s character, and it’s your prerogative to forgive him for it or not. Me, I’ve been in the fandom back since before the first season was finished, and we were utterly starved for love interests then. Soarin’ only had 3 lines, the rest had to be extrapolated, and so were things about Big Mac, Caramel, etc. Considering the long history of the show not fully realizing most of their male character’s potential, we’re used to making something from little. So, from the little we see, we hopefully find out a little about the pony Flash.
 
Since some personality traits carry over between worlds, we can assume pony Flash is also laid back, caring, and patient, offering a good complement to Twilight’s more bizarre tendencies. Even then, considering huma Flash’s occasionaly goofiness, he also probably wouldn’t be entirely uptight, despite the next feature. Thanks to other information like concerning his rank and personality, since he’s an officer, he passed at least college-level academia, making sure he’s not some jarhead and potentially intellectually stimulating., in addition to getting a lot of discipline and responsibility issues ironed out.
 
Take it as you will, but those are some of the common reasons. You’re right in seeing a lot of other ships somewhat reflected in the package, so if you want to focus on those, feel free. But please don’t say there’s no reason at all to think FlashLight could be a valid ship.

Yeah okay whatever nobody really cares.

I don’t get FlashLight. It seems to me it’s one of those things where people only like it because it’s there. Off the top of my head, I can think up at least ten Twilight ships that would be superior. Big Mac, Braeburn, Soarin’, Thunderlane, Bulk Biceps, Time Turner, Pokey Pierce, Caramel, BlueBlood, even Discord, and I hate DiscoLight.
 
Flash was just sort of shoehorned into the role as a love interest character and we were just sort of expected to love him for it. Some people do, but they seem more concerned with Twilight having a boyfriend than with something that has more build up or chemistry.
 
FlashLight just seems like such a hollow, shallow shipping to me. People have said ‘give it time to be interesting’, but that’s just basically admitting it’s terrible, isn’t it? If it has to be made interesting, that means it fails.
 
All I know is Twilight has had more meaningful interactions with Big Mac while he thought he was a dog.
