Well, it depends on what you mean when you say “falsely identified.” While the symbol itself has no original satanic meaning, it was adopted by Anton LaVey as one of the symbols to represent his idea of satanism and, from that, was also adopted by many other “satanic” religions. So, while yes the symbol has no satanic intentions on its own, it is very commonly used to reference satanic behavior.
