It was accompanied by Twilight stating that this was precisely because ponies knew next to nothing about them. While not outright stated, it heavily implied that this was the reason why there was nothing on their books about them.
 
And yes, we could come up with explanations, but they would have to disregard things that the show quite obviously did for a reason. If there are no books on dragons on her library, if ponies know next to nothing about them, if dcotros don’t have a clue how to treat and if even Fluttershy didn’t know they could talk…then there’s just no way we’re talking about a creature that lives peacefully with ponies in one of their main cities. Its a big contradiction.

It’s entirely possible that the Golden Oaks Library simply didn’t have any books on the subject.
 
And this community could be relatively new.
 
Don’t get me wrong, it’s still a plot hole, but there are any number of explanations you could give to make it work.
 
…The problem is that we shouldn’t NEED to come up with our own explanations in order to make it work.

I wasn’t talking about people in this threat in particular, but the general idea that some people DO like to look for excuses to explain whatever happens as a way to try and fit the comics into the show’s canon. Which is not a bad thing in itself, but when it comes to the point where we just step all over what many previous episodes explicitly stated and showed, then that reaches a different level. This arc has gone way too much against established canon.
 
And its alright, this is a show adimed mainly at kids and yadayada, we all know this. No need to take it that seriously…until it involves the part of the story someone its particulary interested in (in which case, even the biggest “dude chill its for little girls” dude turns into a mass of lore-preaching and nitpicking) but whatever. The simple point is that more so than other arcs (that come to my mind) this one has completely disregarded the little, but really solid, lore we had on these creatures. Whether some care about it or not its not the problem, because as I said, no one cares until its about something THEY are interested in.

They never said “nothing” they said “next to nothing” which means they do know a few things. Most of them are probably things they have seen them do from afar however, such as that they can breathe fire, that they are violent, that they can nap for 100 years and that once every 100 years, they all fly somewhere in a big group.
 
But that seems to be about the limit of their knowledge. The biggest expert in creatures all-round didn’t even know they could talk, and after spending an entire night looking through every book on her library, Twilight said that aside from ponies knowing next to nothing about them, none of the books said anything about dragons either.
 
And now it turns out a whole comunity has been living peacefully in a pony. city. Because whatever.

Boy, the more I think about this, the more I start to feel strange. This feeling…Could it bet that we’ve given a show that claims its a family show but its unmistakably targeted towards little girls like it always has, too much credit?
 
People were paid big bucks to write worse crap for a brand, we’re actually lucky we’ve gotten this far without a story error so huge that little kids caught it and made a bigwig wanna give the boot to all responsible.

Hm, now I think about it, it was pretty strange that ponies know nothing about dragons. Yea, yea, they’re dangerous, but something has to be known, even if just through indirect means. Bits and pieces of information, just like that bit about Dragon Migration, and how often it happening. Known visual looks, how many winged, wingless, horned is sighted, fire colors, magic, etc.

Dragon canon says dragons take 100 year naps, which can cause serious problems in the surrounding area.  
Dragon canon has Fluttershy stating she didn’t even know they could talk. Fucking Fluttershy didn’t know.  
Dragon canon says pony doctors don’t know jack about dragons, and some have never even seen one before Spike.  
Dragon canon says not a single goddamn book in Twilight’s entire library says anything about dragons.
 
There IS dragon lore. It may not say what we want it to say or adress the parts we are more interested in, but the show has set a pretty firm ground about where and how dragons stand in relation to ponies. But no. Since we want comics to be canon, then lets just find excuses. That seems reasonable.
