I think the bigger issue is that instead of just telling him that she doesn’t feel the same way, she instead bats her eyes at him whenever she needs a favor. I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt and say she might not grasp the full implications of what she’s doing, but it’s definitely not healthy for either of them.
 
Sooner or later, Spike will try to take things somewhere Rarity never intended on going, and once she runs out of excuses and distractions, there’s only two options. The bad choice is to admit to Spike that she never felt the same way and was more or less using him, shattering his heart and destroying any chance of trust or friendship between them for quite a while. The worse option is to play along and give him what he wants for the sake of maintaining her lie; the costs to keep it up, and the consequences of confessing to it or being caught in it, will only get worse the further things go. Either way, is it really worth it for a little housework and a hoofful of gems?

Actually, this may interest you then. In the recent ‘Friends Forever’, with Spike and Luna, Spike meets a female dragon almost his age who loves comic books! And since Sparity is one of the few ships confirmed never to happen, it would be interesting to see some art of Spike and that female dragon. I can’t remember her name, but she is a HUGE Luna fangirl who outright ‘ships’ Luna with Sombra :p

I think Spike should magically grow a pair, and seek out a suitable and obtainable mate. Like a male or female dragon mayhaps? Rarity won’t fall in love with Spike. Ever. Unless her “generous” nature allows him to mate her, which would probably be out of sympathy and not love. I don’t even want to imagine what kind of abomination would be born between Spike and Rarity… The sooner Spike gets a grasp on reality, the more opportunities the show has to expand the universe it has created. Consider all the plot line that could occur should Spike find romance with one of his own kind. It could go into the economy of the dragons and how they behave amidst each other, not referring to the teenagers and their rowdy nature. To me, Spike getting Rarity is no different than Winona getting Applejack. Spike is essentially treated like a puppy, which I feel is unjust to Spike who could have actual potential. He is but a child, and children grow. I know I am rambling, I just feel the Spike + Rarity trend is tired and has consumed more time in the series than it should.

I totally buy the Rarity being flirty angle, and even support it. But pushing Spike away with a hoof to the face does bug me some.

Honestly, I prefer the stallion chasing Rarity over the “falling head over heels in love” Rarity on tv. Kinda reminds me of fabulous fem Johnny Bravo

Hasbro and IDW, please stop making Rarity look like a slut, and no more cockblocking Spike. They’re better than this.

Yeah, that’s another thing that keeps me away from the comics: the art style is meh and characters are constantly drawn off-model.
