Well these aren’t background ponies. They’re secondary characters like the Cakes, Daring Doo, Fleetfoot, etc. characters that have had major roles in episodes.

The ones you guys are thinking of: Carrot Top, Amethyst Star, Dinky, the backgound mane six, etc. are all thirdary characters.

I’m optimistic that you’re wrong. I don’t think these four qualify as “background ponies” and in the promotional material, it really suggests that the 100th episode will focus on fan favorites.
