Description
Damnit Twilight, how many times does Spike need to save the world for you to take him seriously and BRING HIM ALONG ON YOUR ADVENTURES!?
Heh, or Glimmy mini-meltdowns, slaps a blindfold on him, then spins him like a top before ‘porting Spike out to the middle of nowhere. By the time he flame-o-grams & gets picked up by the Guard, situation’s resolved.
Agreed. That was a nice touch, at least.
I’ll admit, that’s something I did like. It wasn’t just leaving him behind for no reason or just leaving him to take care of their work, he actually had plans with somepony outside the Mane 6
An episodic routine would’ve been fun to watch a la “Ralph Wolf and Sam Sheepdog”. Spike picks the lock with his tongue, then digs under the wall, then melts the lock, then chews through the wall, and the villagers have to keep putting him back and safeguarding against everything they learn he can do.
He’s resourceful. They would eventually resort to putting him on a tiny island in the middle of a lake.
This really qualify as drama? Skews closer to ‘Spike discussion’ in my book, hot-headed as the artist’s description complaint may be.
The point of my post was precisely the fact that he HAS the tools/weapons to be extremely dangerous, even at his age, but because of the nature of the show, he wouldn’t actually use any of these.
Also ,Twilight ran from the Timberwolves and the Cragodile as well. Does that mean none of her spells would’ve been useful? The show simply wants to avoid showing them engaging in direct violence as much as it can, which is why Twilight’s fight with Tirek blew everyone’s socks off.
Take away the pacifist nature of the show/characters, and Spike could’ve simply roasted the entire village with the same fire attack he used in Equestria Games. Not even talking about the size, the speed at which his fire melts stuff is ridiculous. Its obviously not regular fire, which makes since he’s a dragon.
An he can apparently use a large blast without showing any signs of fatigue afterwards.
Sure, he wouldn’t beat Glimmy plus the rest of the village, but if all they did was imprison him with Twiley & Co., he could still try tunneling out, messaging Celestia, etc. As for Tirek’s cage, construct whipped up by Centaur Satan as opposed to a bog-standard cottage.
It’s not about fighting, it’s about escaping. As for Tirek’s cage, you could either blame magic (Which is even more applicable with the bubbles) or not wanting to leave his much more severely weakened friends behind (And what would he have done outside of the cage against Super Tirek?)
Based on this it seems very likely that the scene in the cave wouldn’t have been much different with Spike on their side. He alone against a dozen other ponies and a skilled Unicorn mage… yeah the odds are against him.
He can bite through diamonds, rocks, metal, etc as if they were candy. No jail, cage or muzzle can hold him.
He can dig through the ground with his claws, which means he could’ve made a tunnel heading out of the cottage.
He’s full of useful tools for breaking out, sneaking around, and heck even fighting off dangerous enemies. Of course, they’d never let him do the last one, since fire that has melted iron in 2 seconds and a huge chunk of ice in 4 would have ugly consequences if used as an actual weapon against enemies, let alone enemy ponies.
So yes, its not that he can’t help, its that the show won’t ever let him, for obvious reasons.
And this goes for most of the times he’s been with them in a dangerous situation.
@martianmister
Starlight said she had been practicing her beam spell for years, so there’s no guarantee that she was anywhere near as multifacetic as Twilight. Twilight is an exception, most Unicorns only know a few spells related to their talent or that they practized. If she hasn’t shown something, then she can’t use it.
Er, just ‘cause Glimmy could suppress Twi’s mojo doesn’t mean she has the same range of spells at her disposal-or anything specialized for quenching dragonflame. Unless she was (a) willing to get lethal or (b) had some sleepytime spell at horn, Celly might just be alerted by the restraint gear, door, SOS letter, etc. dropping outta thin air.
@SFaccountant
Also valid.
YOU’RE the champions of Equestria, figure something out. Geez.
but the iron muzzle wouldn’t completely cover his mouth, so the flames could still escape and melt the muzzle. And I doubt Starlight has an iron muzzle fit for a dragon laying around.
Give him an iron muzzle.
And bite through the rocks. Spike’s kind of a swiss army knife of Jail Breaks
couldn’t he melt the chains?
Chain him up in these tunnels?
‘Incinerating’ is just an exaggeration to describe his capabilities, not so much the most efficient method. And yes, there were actually rather large windows around, so it’s actually a surprise none of the ponies tried that either. Either way, Spike would have made the situation harder to write around.
@martianmister
Imprison him where? The other other cottage?
She has magic. It wouldn’t be hard for her to defeat and imprison him.
That’s not incinerating the cottage prison, though. It wouldn’t have worked anyway. The cottage had brick walls. He would have had to ignite the door, which would’ve filled the room with smoke before they could kick the door in.
Blood Brandy’s suggestion made much more sense. The windows may have still been too small for the ponies to escape though after removing the bars. I’m not sure about that, but they may have been.
Personally, I don’t think Spike would have been locked in there in the first place if he had come along. But it doesn’t matter. He had a good reason to stay behind.
Like where? The other cottage?
@QueenCold
It’s not like he’ll just recklessly spew fire everywhere. He could be tactical about it, like making a small enough entrance somewhere he could sneak in and out of.
If nothing else, he could bite through or melt the bars…
