Slitted eyes allow a nocturnal creature to adapt to a change in light level quickly. It actually has no bearing on how well they see. How much the pupil can dilate, and whether they have a tapetum lucidum is what affects night vision. A cat at night, for example has the pupils dilated till they are round and glow from the tapetum lucidum. Permanently slitted eyes at night would reduce night vision.

Huh. And now I’m wondering how much light a bat pony needs to read by.

I mean, they’re nocturnal, right? Slitted eyes and everything. They should need practically no light at all.
