I always wondered what would happen if they stayed trapped in those cocoons for too long, be it just Celestia in A Canterlot Wedding, or her, Luna, Cadance, Shining Armor, Flurry Heart, and the Mane Six together in To Where and Back Again.

Okay, my darkest headcanon for the changelings: What if they feed on every last bit of love in the body of their captured ponies? And through that process, not only do they nourish themselves but turn the victim into a hateful husk that must constantly feed on love like a parasite.
 
In other words, a changeling. And the cycle repeats.

That’s exactly why Celestia was in that cocoon.
 
The process was not completed, however… So Celestia merely has Changeling powers.
 
This now makes her the most powerful thing alive.
