So we can all agree to say this then. Griffon guards are a LOT more competent than the E.U.P. outside of Shining Armor.

I’d also point out that their king is right there with them, fighting the beastie. If they have to fight Arimaspi, plus worry about the king’s safety while fighting at a disadvantage due to surprise, I’d say they acquitted themselves pretty well.
Plus, a few minutes later they’d already rallied and went after him.
Not to mention that griffons don’t have magical abilities like royal pony guards do
Hey, that thing is 5x larger than them in size and mass, 10x as strong (considering he punched his way in and out of the castle), 2x as fast, and just as intelligent as the griffons.
If anything, the griffons got lucky he got hit with a stray lightning bolt, on a precariously-placed bridge, above a bottomless gorge, in the middle of a thunderstorm.
